Only allow disassemble, deconstruct, moving or pickup for decorations when in construction mode.
Currently, when you have things like rugs and other decorative objects, and you're running around, your screen is just spamming the E for pickup option. I have had people accidentally dismantle wells, pickup and accidentally break the benches, etc.
The simple solution is to have pickup/dismantle options ONLY show up while the building hammer is in your hand.

Kenneth Weldon MergedI would suggest making it so you can't "Dismantle" or "Pick Up" items within your base unless you have the hammer equipped. The dismantle UI is annoying when it is around at all times and my friend accidently dismantled our well...... hoping he doesn't dismantle the new one now that we moved.

Nymheris MergedIt gets a bit annoying with the "E to pick up" mark constantly floating around me when I walk around the base. It kills the immersion. Id like to look out a window without it begin blocked by a button to remove it ^-^ Either we must hold the hammer for such markers to appear or its an "edit base" mode so we can hide/show those options to replace objects as we wish

Sure2outdo MergedRunning through your base and with trees planted it just reads dismantle on all of them or if you plop your new base next to a house I like that idea that its easy to remove unwanted things in my way for what I envisioned. But being able to toggle that as a option would be nice to prevent opps from happening.

Make it to where if we want to move something, we have to be holding the Construction Hammer, and instead of a big "E" on it, just have the object be highlighted when the cursor is hovering over it. With a,
"E (Hold) to move object" and a,
"(Right Click) (Hold) to pick up" in the bottom corner of the screen. -

KaiAllow hammers to increase your interaction ranges for 'pickup' to be further than normal as well, because if you place grappling points high up it ends up triggering you to 'grapple' when you want to hold to remove.

ArynAlso when you place a Flame Altar within an area with already made buildings or items it always says to dismantle the items or buildings...please make it where that option is only available with the construction hammer out!

My main gripe with the "pick up" prompt is that it's extremely immersion breaking and annoying.

Freakassee MergedThere needs to be a way to selectively disable key prompts on pre-existing structures within base boundaries. It's also a little irritating to constantly see E pop up on every wall you look at in the destroyed tavern you're currently squatting in and plan to restore eventually.

Maybe even make it a consumable like glue you have to boil from bones and apply to whatever you want to nail down. -

None of the items should be dismantlable unless the hammer is active.
Furthermore, once a player places a placeable, they should be able to LOCK it so that it can not be destroyed, reclaimed or moved without a hammer in hand.
Books come to mind, which only take a single punch to destroy a pile of several books... utter nonsense, have you ever tried to destroy a book with your bare fist ??? -

Also because it's distracting when I lay down a bunch of nice, cozy carpets and then have them flash to a darker shade (which happens alongside the "pick up" prompt) whenever I traverse them/whenever I'm in their object selection range. It ends up looking like my floor has a visual glitch.

CatrianaYes please! I cannot tell you how often I go to pick something up and accidentally pick up something from another floor. Make things "pick-up-able" only if we can SEE them! If they are not in visible range, we shouldn't be able to grab them.

It would also be helpful to have the visual showing you which item is targeted for pick up (currently a very VERY faint darkening that pulses) be much easier to see. Perhaps a glow instead of the faint darkening? Or make the darkening more apparent?
I also like the hammer being needed option...would reduce visual spam when moving around your base and not wanting to move anything. No more E clutter :) And helpful when placing flame altars near existing structures. So many times I accidentally disassembled some feature I badly wanted to keep because I can't make it when trying to pick up something I had placed. Argh! -

HalspawnI would upvote this a thousand times if I could. Accidentally disassembling a well or banister which you can't replace yet in your fixer-upper house is disastrous. The "disassemble" function should not be on the same key as "use" anyway. This is a horrible UI "feature". A related bad UI implementation is the action key acting on things that aren't in your field of view, like grabbing grapple anchors or disassembling something other than what you are looking at. The whole context sensitive action key implementation needs to be reworked and cleaned up. Any time you misinterpret the user's intent you are taking agency away from them, breaking immersion, and often wasting their time and frustrating them to the point of a rage-quit decision moment.

Mark H.It would also be nice to have the option to pick up pre-existing items (chairs, beds, etc.) so that they can be claimed and reused, instead of just the dismantle option. Also, I do think that "dismantling" should give back some basic resource. Or, change the label to destroy instead.

Fractured MergedFriend and I built our base where there are a lot of objects that can be deconstructed, but we built it there because we like those objects.

So we have to be careful NOT to deconstruct them, and its an eyesore constantly seeing that popup. Would be nice to have it so deconstruct only pops up during build mode. -

And also, i Would also include in the system for Plants and Crops only being able to Harvest/Collect IN FARM SOIL, so we can still use then as decorations without runing with fear to colect then by mistake!.
And without the Farm Soil, to remove then, we keep the system of the Hammer, removing plants and flowers/crops out of the Farm Soil with the Hammer Mode on!. -

It happens far too often that you try to interact with an object, such as a garden well, and end up accidentally pulling out a plant instead. This is especially frustrating when you have placed many objects in a small radius, as the “dismantle” or “gather” prompt pops up every few steps.
