Be able to use a torch in place of a shield so that you can do combat a bit easier at night

VerdantOr a lantern you can equip after reaching a certain point in the game (I just found out it already exists)

Spork 0f Doomi would like to add , a mining helm for those of us who like to dig long tunnels and perhaps , craftable mounting torches so we dont get lost in our caves ( cave bases would be awesome )

DavidCompletely agree. It makes no sense not to use one hand weapon in the right hand and the torch in the left. Right now it's almost impossible to fight in the dark.

DaedeliseI feel the travelers lantern should be available in the game much earlier. If you can make a table lantern you should be able to add string to it and tie it to your waist. Torch in an off hand is typical, but you lose that if you use two hand. Also parry seems to be pretty necessary so not having a shield when ganged up on hurts.

Michael Cramer MergedPlease give us as left hand slot to equip weapons (wands/ staff- melee combos) and or items like torch and potions/food. Or open the shield slot for other equipables

Foxglovez NTorch in left hand is a light, Torch in rt hand is a weapon. All I know is it's too dark at night without one and throwing it on the floor isn't a great option, or something wearable would be fine. Just gotta see and still be able to fight. Thanks

916Just craft the wisp in the bottle. No need to be carrying a torch

MarcI would suggest a slot on the character that is only for light.

Fighting in a dark cavern is so annoying!
I don't even loot the corpses because they emit *some* light so i can orient better in the darkness. -
31 Jan, '24
IrynaYou can E and drop it on the groud, it will still light. Also there is a lantern flying around you, so this is in skills

LovroImo lamps that you could put on your belt would be a lot better solution. Maybe once you unlock more advanced recipes :D

KortakYou have firefly potion for this...

FynMerge This Suggestion with the one further Up in the list to be able to Dual Weald, probably the two would work together.

HuryiadeI think an item in it's specific slot like the grappling hook would be nice. We could even get quests to improve it and be able to light farther on each upgrade.

SaschaEven the way the characters hold the Torch annoyes me. A Torch had to be hold up in the air, not to the ground like a weapon.

PurputThere shouldnt even exist the need of suggesting this since it should be a feature alreay
-
08 Feb, '24
PjwnedI do agree that this should be an option, but Wisp of Light is already a thing, so at the very least in the meantime you can use that.

Would be nice if Wisp of Light lasted a little bit longer though. -

SamwiseSomeone mentioned having a lantern you could equip as a light source, but an even more fitting item I think would be a floating fairy/wisp. You have the wisp potion, so potentially having the Alchemist be able to unlock a wisp light at a certain level. Potentially adding color variance and make it limited by requiring you to feed/take of it.

ElainosIt would be nice if you actually held the torch UP like you would in real life... Currently it sits at your side like a weapon and feels less immersive. Allow us to equip and hold like a weapon in the right hand, but equip and hold up higher in the left hand as an actual torch light.

Cannibella DeLecticiousWhat is this madness, Torch in offhand, heathens! :D

Duke_00deifnitvely an improvement to concider. The times I died reequipping the torch for a sword in a fught is madness. on the other hand thats what the whisps are for. Either lengthen the time the whisp Flask lasts or and a torch in offhand.

Haley ElizabethWhat about a progression system to player adventure lighting? You start of unsure, unexperienced, so you hold a torch in your off hand.
6
As your progress and learn, you find you can craft a belt lantern as others suggested, as we see in Dragons Dogma.
Someone else suggested a fairy in a bottle?
These were all thoughts I had and I'm sure many have.
I stopped reading, but spells and potions can work if that wasn't suggested.
Magic items?
Enchantments? EN. CHANT. MENTS!! That's something all games benefit from. Being able to craft your own gear and add your own enchantments to tailor make your armor sets to your needs . . . that's a whole other suggestion.
What about unique lighting options we have never seen in a game? Weapon and / or armor addons, like creating a light cage to hold sparks?
Create one and affix it to your glove / s for example?
Chest?
Feet? All?
Options for other gear addons like spikes for reflected damage? Twigs and plant fiber for camo - that might be cosmetic? -

Mercenary25I agree with Haley Elizabeth's comment. There are multiple ways the game could allow for enhancements to weapons or armor that affect a glow/flame effect in dark areas. In addition, A skill could also be added to the trickster, beastmaster, or assasin lines to allows for better vision in the dark.

RealitymeltdownI don't know about any of these suggestions. But as a new player, I don't know what I'm expected to do to deal with darkness. My best solutions, after roughly 30 hours of playtime are basically 2 things. If it's outside and nighttime, I leave a flame altar slot open. If night falls, I make a new flame altar teleport back to my favorite base, crawl into bed until daytime, warp back and destroy my brand new altar and resume exploring. Heck if I have 2 slots open, I'll leave it in case I die nearby.
Any other time it's dark I go in with a torch out. If I see the enemy first I drop my torch and lure them to me with arrows and fight them on top of it. But if they see me first, I switch to my weapon immediately and flail wildly in the dark. I have yet to find a better option and even after having met the hunter, having a base and even starting a second biome. -

Slick99Don't need this at all, have you not unlocked Wisp of Light yet?
-
23 Feb, '24
LumaruI use wisp drink, but that thing doesnt realy light up the area if u are in damn dark cave.
Another idea is if one could put down some kind of lightning, for when u start grinding materials in a cave, even if it isnt in the home area, but it is timely based like 5-10 min max for 1 duration like that standing torch. That would be nice.
Also Haley Elizabeth has pretty nice ideas. -
24 Feb, '24
ThePolishMadmanI would rather have a lantern you can craft that you can place on your hip so you can still use a sword and shield but be able to see/fight at night.

5thWolfPlease have character hold torch up above head. Not just down to the side. No one holds torches like that!!

TonyFor those that don’t know, there’s also a work potion that creates a little light that follows you. Maybe some more options like that (one that is more Permanent?) might be nice.

SarcoptesHow about summon light globe for mage. This should be a simple cantrip for magic user. Lantern on belt was what I suggested in another page for rangers and warriors. Running around in the dark dungeon is not fun with enemies around the corner. Light wisp requires gathering stuffs and only last 5 minutes.

MitryGreat idea! I've spent 1000+ hours in Conan Exiles and disability to fight with one handed weapon while holding a torch is annoying to me.
-
19 Mar, '24
strafeTIL there is a lantern at some point-- hard agree that it should be available sooner. If that's a problem, I'd suggest you make the lantern an upgradeable tool. Right now, it's so dark at night that any kind of activity is often impossible.

GregIf doing offhand torch is too complicated then improving the wisp of light potion would go a long way instead. Currently it only last 5 minutes, and takes a decent amount of supplies to create one and is consumable. Torches people can repair, if the wisp was an eternal spell, or potion that would not get used it would help a lot. It also needs to last way longer than 5 minutes, its not really a buff and even buffs like the flame scroll can last longer, give it at least the same amount of time as food, 30-40 minutes
As others have mentioned it is also kind of dark and the blue color can be a bit confusing with other things of similar color like the life and mana orbs or even the water healing orb. Change the light to white/yellow and make it a bit brighter along with the longer duration if we cannot have an offhand torch. -

FGSHessThere is a ring that throws a cone of light around you, but it is relatively weak, not usable for dungeons if you move faster, the torch would really be a remedy for that. or the ring will be improved...?

BlixOr make legendary items shine and give at least a little bit of light even without holding a torch. For miners a lit helmet with less defence would be nice.

nathanI better feature I seen in Icarus was the Torch being equipped on the players waist.
-

SteakdrivenMay I also suggest a simple light spell for the wizardly inclined? Or different kinds even
1
1) Make a world object shine like a torch
2) Ball of light above your head
3) Make your weapon emanate light.
4) Stationary orbs of light
Morrowind had something like this for its light spells. -
11 Jun, '24
JonteI think that’s what the wisp of light potion is for. It gives light without having to hold a torch and you can still use weapons.
-
11 Jul, '24
Flannel ZamboniI think more what we need is a slider for light / dark setting ( or helmets that have night vision lol). The current darkness level at night is so dark, that for people like me with a vision disability, night is UNPLAYABLE for the most part.
-
25 Jul, '24
BennyesterAnd for us old, graybearded wizards perhaps a spell that mimics the light whisp potion?
-
26 Jul, '24
oshaugmI would love to have offhand light for use in mining. Or a lantern on my belt or hat. Something? The wisp potions are expensive to use and given just how MUCH mining is needed in this game... that's a lot of wisp pots.
-
26 Jul, '24
BritiLantern on the belt would be best. Love to keep the shield and sword/axe .. or still use two hands for staff.

EkaterinaAn equipable lantern. It's impossible to build or mine in the dark. I basically just go afk at nighttime in the game.
Having dark nights is perfectly feasable and can be a cool part of the gameplay where a map suddenly becomes more dangerous and you need to be extra cautious. It's not like a latern will light up a huge area, but at least enough to do some stuff in the dark (again, such as mining, building, chopping trees). I never even carry a torch with me because it's useless as most weapons/tools are two-handed -
05 Aug, '24
KagemikoThis would be helpful for those playing on other platforms too.
-
05 Aug, '24
W.J.JongeneelThe "Wisp of Light" light your surrounding, so no need for off-hand torches. But it's a nice additional option if it existed in the game.
-
06 Aug, '24
AvatarAlso, make sure this improvement doesn't inadvertantly nerf daggers. I need to be able to use a dagger while also holding a torch.
I think you've already shot yourselves in the foot on this by making every dagger weapon "2 daggers" by default, but personally I wouldn't have any real problem with using one dagger and a torch at night but also doing the same damage, even if that doesn't make sense. This is a game. -
09 Aug, '24
juliushow dark the game gets reminds me of Dragon's Dogma.
i think DD's approach with the lamp makes more sense.
a basic lamp and a modified lamp fueled by regular fuel and an upgraded fuel for basic and upgraded visibility.
resin for the basic fuel and something else for the latter. -
19 Aug, '24
Jon Wilbur O. TanShould also have light mechanic for backpacks or mounted on body such as headlamps.

Joseph HeathI think having a torch as a beginner off hand tool that you can find or make better ones that make a healer class or use the light burst spell, or various light/fire spells.
