Townsfolk and npcs can close doors when walking through them
I absolutely love the new update but, when i come home to my base every door just stays open I find it kinda annoying. Please allow them to shut doors or doors close automatically after like 10 seconds or so.

2005Guyver02 MergedCould you please make it so that if the PC's open a door and decide to go through it or just turn round and walk off, that they first close the door behind them? It's like they all grew up in a barn; they keep leaving the doors open and allowing wild life in.
Maybe give them a good reason to close the bEEEEEp doors: if they leave them open and they are wondering around/inside that if a wolf is nearby, that the wolf will opt to eat them instead of the goats and/or rabbits. -

Iain MergedNPC's and pets keep going missing from the house, I've had to put all the NPC's at 0m, I still have to go looking for the pets when I come back home. I would like to have the NPC's moving so the base feels alive, but playing fetch with them is not what I expected.
Permission on the doors, or might be easier the NPC's, will allow them to roam within a selected area, i.e., staying in their dedicated building/room for village/castle type builds. -

Jonathan MergedI love that the NPCs wander around town - but it's sort of immersion breaking when then just wander into your house, open the door to the bathroom to sit down, and then leave - only saying "Hello!" and then "Bye!". I'd love it if we could close doors and then sort of "soft lock" them so that you could control whether the doors can be opened by NPCs or perhaps even other players. Or perhaps another solution would be "keyed doors" - like a character with a key can open a door, but otherwise it's locked.

Leadenum MergedIt's very annoying to have to close the doors for the NPCS so please do something about that even if it means they go through them without opening them. Or put an objection so that they do not move more than 2 meters from their bed.

Mike Bryant MergedMake followers close doors after opening them. My nice base have all my animals nicely contained in separate barns. A few minutes after followers are allowed to move about the base, all my doors are open and all the animals are loose! Please either make followers close doors after opening them or give me the option to turn off their ability to open doors.
Also, please make them actively get out of the way if they are in a doorway and I'm coming through. They need to show some respect and gratitude! -

Helmgunther MergedI think it's nice that the townsfolk/NPCs walk around and go through doors on their own. But! Can you please make sure that the NPCs close the doors behind them. They all have bags in front of the doors. I'm just running after them the whole time to close the doors that they left open again!

DragonsDusk MergedOn a similar note, can we have pet doors? Then it's not a matter or me, or an NPC opening/closing the door for the dog and cat.

AvalonInkAdding my comment to this - sometimes I think the villagers get stuck outside or too far away from their bed, then I get the icon & flame altar telling me someone doesn't have a cozy bed. Of course you do, Cade! Get back inside, you fool!
I, like others, have set almost everyone to 0m wander radius because of open doors, 'missing' beds, and also it's really creepy that if I stand idle in my base for too long they gather around and stare at me. I'm really not that interesting. :D -

Laura MergedIf the NPCs can open the door to let themselves in/out then it only seems logical that they should be able to close the door behind them! Otherwise, someone gets eaten by wolves whilst afk in the wash closet >,>

Bad Horse MergedNPCs should not only open doors, but also close them.
If the player decides to close a door, it can be quite annoying if this door is opened again by an NPC and remains open.
After all, the decision to close a door is usually made for a good reason. -

Harley MergedHi, I love having more villagers in the game—it’s fantastic! However, I’ve noticed that NPCs open doors but don’t close them, which feels a bit strange. It would be great if they could close the doors after opening them.
Thank you! 😊 -

VapidGasconadeDefiantly love the new update, I just wish my NPCs would close the doors because my pets (cats and dogs) keep wandering out and they get stuck somewhere or lost and I have to go find them. Or a wild animal or shroudling gets in and tries to eat my livestock.

Dennis MergedNPCs complain about not having a bed when THEY left their door open
Solution: Make them close the fxxxin doors, PLEASE
And let us LOCK doors so they cannot enter. I made my own "master bedroom" and every 10 seconds someone slams the door open and then walks away. -

squeakYeah, doors are crazy since the update. Seem to be opening completely at random, in unpredictable directions. I have a pantry that has no reason to be opened from the inside but i keep coming back to base to find it so. More importantly, ive got some doors that block walkways (and even other doorways) when opened from the wrong direction, so survivors are getting trapped on account of not being able to close anything lol ...
My suggestion was going to be that we're given an extra interaction button when looking at a door. This would open a small menu that allows us to toggle which way the door opens, toggle npc lock on/off and toggle auto-close on/off (so it can just swing shut a few seconds after opening) -

DaveNPC's need to close doors and gates as soon as they walk through them, i cant have a gate on my animal pens because the npc's leave them open and the animals get out. This forces me to have solid walls that the npc's cant get out of when they somehow get into the animal pens.

Khazul MergedWhen an NPC opens a door, it should also close it behind. It is annoying to have them continuously opening doors to cattle sheds for eg.

Ethan ScalfaroI agree so much it’s really annoying when they open up the doors and gates and they don’t leave them closed. It just looks weird. It also allows enemies to come into the base. It’s really annoying.

DarknessShallFall MergedOne thing that is very annoying, is when NPC's walk through doors in your base/village and open doors, but dont close them afterwords. This also poses a problem if you have your farm animals separated by a door, among other things, like having a wall with a door as a way in and out. I think having the ability to toggle the option to allow doors to automatically close after an x amount of time from being opened by them would be very nice to have, and could prevent a large multitude of issues from occurring, as well as maybe some doors with the option to keep NPC's from opening them at all.

DarenaChange 'can' to 'always do if they pass through them'. I wasn't raised like this, so seeing every door in my house open annoys me to no end, lol. Worse, I tried putting a simple fence with a gate on one of my pens. One of them opened it then left it open, and let all the animals out. You're supposed to NOT want to close everyone in a box with no doors or windows to store them away rather than allowing them to roam.

PaulJFrankly, just force all doors to be auto-closing. See, if we wanted two rooms joined by a permanent opening we wouldn't put a door, we'd just leave the "doorway" empty. By placing a door that implies we want it to be closed when not in use. Heck, if the designers REALLY want to they can add a toggle option for doors needing to be closed manually.
This solves most NPC issues as well, no need to code them for closing doors since the doors close automatically, and it doesn't get in the way of proposed door locking mechanisms either for players who want doors only usable by players (e.g. base external exit doors, you don't want your NPCs wandering out). -

Benjamin MergedWith this npcs can't open all doors you can toggle which they can use and which don't. So the npcs can't let all you farm animals out of their encouser.

Pixel HunterPlease add the NPC logic that if they open a door, they should close it after they pass through. Having every single door open on my base ruins the RP immersion and let's pets and farm animals out of the areas I'm trying to keep them in!

OhtatarionAdditional to the above a permission system, which NPC is allowed where, in combination with a “don’t cross that line”-option for spaces without doors, maybe an invisible, walk-through-if-permitted building block or placeable item, only shown in build mode, would be great.
It’s always quite funny when you finished – for example – that grand new tavern for Emily Frey only to watch caravans of NPCs ignoring the main dining room and bar you spent hours on just to directly walk through the kitchen into Emily’s boudoir, ending in a standing party on her bed.
I’m thinking along the lines of “Player only”, “NPC(s) XYZ”, “All NPCs”, “Just leave it open”... As the cherry on top that system would be copy/pasteable from object to object and include pets/livestock allowing for more/completely open stables and pastures (giving those lovable dogs another task than relentlessly standing in the way blocking every path they can 😊). -

longdckjohnson MergedIf a villager, assistant, or crafterperson interacts with a closed door to open it, they should reset the state of the door back to the state it was when they interacted with it. As it stands now, they can let your pets out. Please let me fix it!!!!

Frank D. MergedCurrently NPCs open all doors in the base when they walk around. Unfortunately when I have animal enclosures they let my animals free, in other cases I mind that they open all doors in my base for no reason.
My suggestion would be to add some NPC door management mechanic:
1) Make NPCs remember the door state before they interacted with the doors and put doors back to that state after they walk through them
or
2) Let us lock doors or set them as player only doors - NPCs would be unable to pass through them -

ABNPCs should leave the doors in the state they found them when they traverse through. If it was open, dont touch it.
If it was closed, they should close them after they pass through.
A million times my NPCs let the animals escape because they just open the fence doors and leave them open.
Very annoying. -

FreyaAdditionally to this it'd be nice to have certain doors "lockable" to NPCs. I want them to have space to roam but they don't need to end up in the closet of my Third guest bedroom in my fourteen room castle.
