Enemies cannot spawn within flame altar range

I took over Fenrig's farm and have placed beds in the basement however spider eggs spawn requiring continual clean out/kill each time I enter proximity.

I'd expect that after I have cleared a building and placed a flame altar it's "mine" and no more spawns can happen inside the range.
