Ability to open map while dead

I'd like to be able to open my map when dead to be able to risk assess better whether I can be bothered to run back for all my loot and/or figure out where i died in comparison to what i was doing, if i've spotted a shiny and wandered off the beaten path.
This is especially useful when partied up and one person is going to run back to respawn people.
