Leinorax MergedAllow to pause the game in singleplayer. It's important for phone calls, package deliveries, kids or pets... For me it's a must have.

Steve MergedWhen you bring up the game menu using select you should be able to close it by hitting the same button not a seperate button. Right now its B to backout and you should just be able to hit select again to exit the menu. That's good menu design.

QP MergedSo I started playing, had to go to work. Whoops it doesn't save? Guess i started back at my base. Then I start playing and oh now it's super - so I can't save wherever so I'll just pause the game and oh it doesn't appear to pause...in single player even...so I guess I can only play this when I have a guaranteed amount of time to play or risk repeating things over and over for no good reason?

dirtys04pWe shouldn't have to vote this in. This should be standard op stuff for any SP game. I have a life outside of games. Things come up. I don't want to be dead because the pizza was delivered and I need to tip the guy.

I second that, because as a single player, I need to go outside to smoke...came back in, I had to re-spawn,. a wolf got me, luckily I wasn't too far away from home. and also how about adding an auto-run feature.
P.S. I bought the game at 10:30 this morning and it is not been shut down as of yet. Love the game. the time now is 11:00 p.m. -

Add Pause in SologamesYes, it is annoying to have to close the game every time you have to attend to your biological needs.

GrimThis is an important accessibility feature too, for the disabled player base.

CWReal life gets in the way a lot and if I have to exit the game to step away, I'm less likely to start it up and exit and start, multiple times in a few hours of play time in an evening. This is often my biggest grip with games that support multiplayer world generation, it should be a standard when there's an explicit solo mode.

SD777This one completely baffles me on the single player side and I've always wanted to pick the brains of game devs who do this. I don't mean to come off as abrasive, but it's really frustrating to lose progress because you have to attend to a crying baby, a delivery that needs to be signed for, grabbing lunch, or just going to the bathroom. Definitely needs a pause for single player mode.

It's because of distinguishing factors between how multiplayer and singleplayer work. To develop them both into a game, effectively requires double the time. What's often easier, is to create the game as multiplayer, and then add a "single player" mode that effectively boots up a local server that you join to (indistinguishable from a normal single player game, albeit that you can't pause). Does that answer your question?
It's not to do with laziness, or making the game harder to play, it's often a time-efficiency thing, because the development time can be hugely different but with very very little reward to show for it. -

BakudanA pause in solo gameplay is really needed, i understand it's not fitting multiplayer but in solo, opening the menu for example, so you can take a call or refill the drink or go to pee, without disconnecting to the game to then be TP back at your base and stuff getting resetted is for me an almost mandatory "feature", i mean, its not even a feature ^^'.

Mad MikeI have a disabled wife who needs regular attention. So this game has become a House Building Simulator as i cannot get to the blacksmith to recruit him as i have to exit to the title screen every 5 minuits. which respawns me back at the flame. Frustrating that I cannot play this game without being able to pause. I hope the devs impliment this but i think that someone will make a pause mod soon like Valheim did in 2 days.

NionIt really is a must-have for single player gaming. I get that it'd be a bit difficult to put into the game, but it makes sense for single-player.

BrendanatorXPlaying solo, found it really frustrating that I can't just pause, honestly I often just quit to menu until I can continue playing and I shouldn't have to do that.

CowskiA pause game is absolutely a necessity in single player mode. RL (real life) happens. :) Other players have expressed the reasoning so I will just recap what I've gathered:
14
* Bio break.
* Children\wife needs attention.
* Someone at the door.
* Phone call.
* Boss wants to talk to you for a moment so you have to put an spreadsheet on top of the game. :D
* Have to run out for food so you can continue to play!
These are just a few of the reasonings you need pause in the game without exiting to the main menu & losing any progression you have maind. -

JoshI'd even like there to be a pause option on a hosted server as my kids and I play together and being able to pause the entire server at once would be great.

WilSimple enough to do - just make it so in single player game, hitting ESC on a non-focus context (in other words not exiting out of a chest or anything; ESC such that would bring up the top-level game menu) the game just pauses. I can appreciate the complications with multiplayer doing this, but in multiplayer one has teammates to consider and might be better-compelled to set-aside non-disturbable time for play.
6
But in single-player mode no need for such pre-planning should be needed. The inability to pause - especially with rested and food slot buffs on timers - not to mention the day/night cycle, no hard pause basically glues you to your PC/console unless you want to waste mats. Also as others above have commented on there's further real-life interruptions like wife and kids, deliveries, etc. -

LawrenceIt would be great to have a pause option solo. I play while at work, since I'm on overnights. When a call comes in, I need to pause, and just found out going to the main menu resets you to a spawn location, not back where you are. Please add a pause option for solo play! Thanks!

shark420I just buyed the game and just learned there is no pause for single player. Are you serious. Top priority or save buton or both. I stoped to play multiplayer because cant spent constant time at a game so pause save is only for single player and now i learn that this game has no pause. Crap considering refund.

JessyValheim got it working ;)

Joking aside; This would be a great feature for single player "mode".
Additional ideas
- Toggle to pause when a menu is open.
- Toggle to pause when interacting with world lore, or an npc.
- Toggle to pause on game menu open. -
29 Jan, '24
TomThis feature should be mandatory in all single player games!

SteelravenSuch an option doesn't really fit into a survival game.
3
There is just a certain additional danger in not being attentive.
Apart from the fact that nothing can happen in this game at the moment. Just go AFK in your base.
There are no raids or other negative effects when you're afk.
I don't get it. -

HisuinoiI play the game in single player mode, as long as there are no extensive server options that you can set and control a lot. And then it's also more fun with friends.
6
Something can always happen, going to the toilet, the doorbell ringing, an unexpected long phone call...
A pause option would be very useful for the single player.
I would agree with the previous speaker with the following options:
- Toggle to pause when a menu is open.
- Toggle to pause when interacting with world lore, or an npc.
- Toggle to pause on game menu open. -

MushySome kind of hard pause function is a must for us parents! it's so handy for us to be able to pause the game when the wife or baby is screaming 😂

YouSuckItThis is not needed. Singleplayers having issues with pause? Why not just quit game to menu for a second while you smoke or whatever. There are more important stuff to do. I hope devs really make good priorities.

Having issue with respawn then go crouch, this game has sneak not just for fun try to use it you will like it! -

MCGame Pause would be a huge QoL for me. I only pay solo and between kids, pets, calls, I have I rarely get 30 minutes of continual play. I can't say "give me 5 minutes to get out of an enshrouded area". I've have to exit/quit, or stop mid adventure and fast travel back home because of the lack of a pause feature. Just to be able to hit esc. walk away, for 5 minutes, and be able to pick right back up where I left off would be glorious!

Ygdrad MergedThe timers for various buffs seem to be based on the clock in some way. I have things that take me away from the game and when that happens, since the game doesn't come with a pause feature, I use the resource monitor to suspend the process. When I unpause the game, the buffs have ticked down. This is the only game I've seen do this. This is also an issue with a soft suspend on the steam deck. If you turn off the steam deck only a small amount of time ticks by but if you use a pause plugin to soft suspend without turning off the whole device, time will tick by and use up your buffs too.

jcb.ismeNot sure if this has been mentioned yet but a workaround is downloading the "universal pause button" from Github. All I have to do on my keyboard is hit the pause key (typically near print screen, home button etc.

MekanimalThis is such a fundamentally basic function that I will be forever baffled that it needs to be requested.

There is no excuse.
As much as I admire this game I cannot in good faith recommend it to anyone until you at least implement this for solo offline players. -

EnoFor single-player this makes perfect sense. For multiplayer it does not.
