Official Linux Dedicated Server
Currently, we must use Wine64 to run the dedicated server on Linux environments. Would be nice to have a native Linux distribution for the dedicated server.

i dont mind to use wine, surely i prefer a linux binary, but the server itself needs a serious rework. performance is just non existent. server runs almost idle while ingame you are getting spammed by server messages. i play with one friend, and besides some really minor lagging movement everything is mostly fine, but then sometimes it gets extremly laggy for a couple of seconds and then return to normal. i host multiple other game servers on an identical server without issues, while on the enshrouded server no other service is running and its barely in a playable state. -

dhkatzYou can use Proton now and it runs WAYY better. But yeah ideally we'd have an actual compiled for Linux build.

MaliciousInjuryUnder Debian I wasn't even allowed to download the server software. A message came,
that the operating system would not be supported,
or something like that. At least it would be nice if this block were abolished. -

FeyntWhile Proton may be able to do the job, a native Linux server would greatly reduce the friction to getting a server running. It also opens the way to containerising the server in a Docker container, which would make hosting effectively frictionless.

RichardThis is really important. We run a Dedicated Server with Wine, but there are package errors when the third (or at least) the fourth player is connecting: pending packets list is full -> Then the ping increases up to 20 seconds. We bought this game for multiplayer coop, so it isn´t play playable and people are frustrated. Our Dedicated has 16GB RAM, SSD and 6 cores, 2,5 Gbit/s without graphic output, so it should be enough. Server in Germany, Player in Germany

TheShroudAll of my server hardware is linux based, I can't wait for a linux server package for this game. I will have it running day one! lol

Rene M.This works for me, but I would prefer an official Ubuntu/Docker release.

MartinI currently have a debian server running wine. After upgrading from a 4x 3,2 Xeon to 4x 3,6 with HT, the game runs well with 3 players. Before, the overload message was constantly annoying even though the utilization was at 70%. Ping is always available through the domain for around 14-16ms, which is all good for early access. Only siw utilization is too high due to the emulation. Server: Debian Xeon 1271 v3, 24gb ECC ram, plus 12tb of additional memory on SSD for Nextcloud and other games.

TheSymahnOnly thing keeping me and my friends from buying the game. I really don't want to go through the extra trouble with Wine or worry about a broken save file.

GabrielSad to see this one have so little upvotes.
If devs want to have people hosting servers for this game, then they need to make it possible to do it using tools like steamcmd in anonymous mod on docker ASAP, so players can have more server options with good latency and maybe even develop tools to facilitate the management.
While tools like wine can work, it puts unnecessary burden in the process and requiring login to use dedicated server instead of allow anonymously in steamcmd makes people to only host 1 server per account. -

dakkaI feel really disappointed when I see games come up without a Linux Server option. I play with my gf and it sux to have to have my game open if she only wants to play (My windows PC can barely handle it). Also using wine or proton requires too much resources and kinda flakey in my opinion.
Debain - 12 gen i7-1260P 16 cores, 64GB Ram, 2TB SSD (having it run on something like this would be awesome) -

AnthonyWould this also help solve issues with my server becoming so laggy with only 3 people?

MirraFirstly let me thank Keen and their imaginations in crafting this world we all can enjoy. My experience running a server under Wine64 version 10.16 (dev release as of this message) with ntsync kernel support (FC42) has made my Proxmox KVMs and the small community i support very happy. While Wine64 with ntsync solution works, I would very much support Linux binaries. I completely understand exporting a code base to support multiple operating systems is not trivial and requires additional skills, expertise and can be financially taxing, and that is just the for starters. I would ask Linux binaries be considered, again with the understand that this is not a trivial request and should be looked at not only from a technical standpoint but also sustainable point of view. Even if Linux binaries are never realized I am glad that Wine64 with ntsync kernel support is a workable solution.

Faldiin GrimmI used Proxmox LXC Docker to setup my server. This was awesome. I would have paid for a server but the cost is to much. I dont know if the server fee's go back to the Devs. I would be happy to pay a small fee for the server I host in support. I am happy it is free.

NirantaliThe very idea of emulating Windows on a Linux Server to run a dedicated Enshrouded Server is a bit strange.
Because, well, you usually choose Linux for that because Windows isn't really suitable for running servers 24/7/365.
In addition, the emulation alone probably eats up as much CPU/RAM as several native Linux Enshrouded servers would.
So yes please, make a Native Linux Enshrouded Server, actually that's standard, most Games have native Linux versions for their servers.
