Mr_Bloodjack MergedDevs, with mod supports, do not forget the fact that the community and the talented users will be able to work toward creating all those others suggestions here!

Let's go even further, rather than spending X+X+X+X amount of time on each new features, "just" spend X amount of time working on mod support, then assign a team to check the code of the most popular incoming and requested mods, strike small deals with mod creator then, voilà : "Community created updates!" -

ShenYes! For me, mods are what give replay value. When I play survival-craft RPGs I typically do one vanilla playthrough and then spend hundreds of hours in community modded servers.

Nevan MergedAs others have stated, mod support for a game allows it to live on longer and grow larger and larger. Look at how long Skyrim has been modded and played for. The game is quite dated at this point, yet, they keep making sales because people keep playing and buying it. Would love to see the game grow in much the same way!

AJ MergedYes, please. At the very least, give us a Creative Mode and/or a build preview mode. Mod support also ensures high replayability--mods keep games alive for years to come.

Joe Giggler MergedI have to strongly agree with Mod Support. It's the "joy" of modding that makes the game worth experiencing with other's talents and imagination (including my own).

Theutus MergedThis should be priority #1. Modders will handle most of the suggestions here naturally while the Devs can focus on the major issues.

Beerbelly Sneetch MergedMod support is the single most important missing feature. There are a thousand things that would make this game better -- let the modding community bear part of the load!

Kimoda MergedThey have already stated that they know how important mods are to the gaming industry. However they did not use an existing engine, they instead created their own which also means they would have to build all the tools from scratch to let modders have free reign, it's a lot easier for games that use Unreal Engine or other popular engines to implement mods rather quickly. I'm not saying don't get your hopes up, just don't expect it to happen for a few years at least.

Bugfinder MergedWe realy realy need Modsupport pls. You use an selfproduction engine, so nobody can mod the game Like valheim. But without Modding, the game will die in short time. Valheim is still live, cause enough People want to plax the game with mods. You cant create all Things for all Player, but Modder can Do this. So let them work for you and your game pls. :)

Empasm MergedThis, right here! This would allow everyone to play the game how they would fully enjoy it. While taking most of the work off of the game devs. People compare Enshrouded to Minecraft because of the voxel system.. That isn't what made minecraft good, it was the ability to have your server or world be what you wanted it to be.

You would have an army of passionate workers and we would have a huge game ! -

TheGrey08 MergedI know it's not in early plans, but having this down the road after or with the 1.0 release would be amazing. Essentially extends the life of the game indefinitely based on community modding and adds infinite replayability to what is already great game.

Hexi MergedI'm going to be very real here with a lot of people.. Mods right now isn't a good ideal. Think about upcoming updates and hotfixs.. Mods well likely break every few weeks and need to be reworked/redone to suit the new update for the game. Sometimes that can take days even weeks depending on the mod maker. I foresee a lot of more crying over waiting then wanting it.. Let the game become more stable before adding mods to the mix. Reshades are one thing but a full on mod that adds and changes things ingame like that not funny when your sitting there with a modded game waiting 2 weeks for your mods to update when you want to play.

El DubsAbsolutely. Mods would ensure the longevity of this game. Long after everyone has 100%'d the game, mods will be what keeps it fresh, and keep new players coming in for cool new mods people make.

C MergedMods are critical for long term sustain in a game like Enshrouded. Because Enshrouded is built with a custom engine, modding is more difficult than it might be in another game. Working on support for mods is a critically necessary feature for Enshrouded to reach its true potential.
-
21 Feb, '24
ndoa_"Official" modding support would take a great deal of effort to actually add in and keep stable while the core of the game is still being actively developed. However, I think there are some low-hanging fruit that would allow people to better work with the custom engine while not requiring official modding support - a "help people help themselves" approach if you will.
1
Similar to Mojang releasing their class mappings for Minecraft, it would be immensely helpful if Enshrouded was shipped with some symbols (e.g. a release-mode `.pdb`) for reverse engineering the file formats, in-memory data structures, and generally just putting names to functions.
This approach would open up modding much more, while also not requiring the devs to keep any backwards compatibility or modding-specific code in the code/assets formats. It would be solely third-party developers doing _unsupported_ things, and it would be perfectly acceptable/expected for game updates to break those external tools/mods. -

HappyHaunt MergedNope Mod creators are somewhat unreliable and I always disliked that part of ARK.
-

Krazimov MergedTake note Hexi that if a mod breaks and you stop playing the game waiting it to be fixed it is on you and you alone, such decision. Mods will break, the urge to play vanilla should be a constant in you as same as the urge to play modded. They're optional, not mandatory.

FabianAs an avid Enshrouded player, I can't help but share my excitement for the game's potential, especially in the realm of role-playing (RP). The immersive world of Enshrouded already lays a fantastic foundation for deep RP experiences, but imagine the possibilities with RP mods!
1
Introducing RP mods could revolutionize gameplay, allowing players to delve even deeper into their characters and the world around them. From customizing roles like farmers, miners, or soldiers to implementing intricate systems for land management and diplomacy between kingdoms, the addition of RP mods could elevate Enshrouded to new heights of immersion and player engagement.
While I understand the complexities involved in game development and the need to prioritize certain features, I can't help but dream of the day when RP mods become a reality in Enshrouded. The potential for storytelling, community interaction, and dynamic gameplay is truly boundless. -

Joko MergedMods will help developers to develop the game further, the comunity can fix where devs messed up! like, claim protection, variety of new bosses and variation of NPC and enemies as well as more building blocks, etc!

Mastermage MergedAdditionally releasing the tools or a smaller version you used to Edit the Terrain and allowing the Players to create their own worlds would let the Replayability Skyrocket. Imagine what the creative players could do with this.

SyhI hard disagree with the nay-sayers. Mods add much more variation to the game, which in turn adds replay value, and allows for individuals or groups to curate the game to their preferences (enabling more people to enjoy it than otherwise would). Personally, I would've already installed, or created, a few mods: in game chat, mob difficulty modifiers (and spawning amounts) since they're far too easy atm, and ability modifiers (for nerfing/buffing abilities.. as some are still faceroll OP).

Three SeagrassModding support requires a stable API on the side of the game. This game is still in early access. It cannot provide a stable API yet. From a technical point of view, it's really difficult to ask the devs to have the foresight to provide an API with the promise that it will remain back-compatible.
So either we wait for mods, or each time there is an update, we have to udpate the mods as well... And there is a lot of update. There is no way to win here except with patience. -

JaceI played conan exiles unmodded for about 80 hours and was basically done, I played modded conan for 3000 hours. Mods extend the life-span of a game so much!

LilySince this game was playable people already started to mention how incredible it would be to have the opportunity to create full RP servers. You guys did an incrediable work on the lore, links between letters and npcs that we actually find in the game, and it all is something that mods could really enhance.
As several people who comment before me, the addition and support for mods would make this game insanelly re-playable , also this is a known thing how much mod community adds up. -
18 Mar, '24
DominicWhile I agree mods are awesome and would be amazing, it would be like redoing my childhood with Minecraft, I also think that adding modding support in this early would be problematic for features later down the line. I know nothing about coding, so I'm not sure, but I think it's something to consider, the long-term effects on the development of the code.

sleepyloafif there's one thing I really look forward to about the future of this game, it's mods. plus it's completely free on the devs side. it's gets people playing the game for countless extra hours without ever lifting a finger. what's not to love?

AaronAs per other comments, I'd like to see a "Creation Kit" similar to Skyrim's... I'd love to be able to add stuff to this game, and it really could be a huge boon for the developer studio for the longevity of the game (a la Skyrim!)...
Even if they were to put a caveat in the small print where they might license mods for actual addition to the main game, I'd still plough hours into it!
ALSO, I just generally love this engine and the way it is shaping up... could they license it free-to-use with charges for commercial use, like UE and Unity? This engine ticks all my boxes for what I have been looking for to create a massive open world rendition of the Discworld from Terry Pratchett fame! (I tried in CryEngine, Unity and UE4, and even in Skyrim Creation Kit, but the expanse of the world was just too great for them to render... I believe someone achieved it in Minecraft, but that's with Minecraft Gfx... Since this game is essentially MC with better graphics, I'd love to have a play!) -

LeopardMods would add a layer of replayability and content that a studio just cant match. Its scary for a studio to add mod compatibility since it can mess with future roadmaps and can greatly hurt the community if API's etc gets changed too often, leading to broken mods etc.
I would however LOVE seeing mods added. That said, i dont think i really need mods for this game atm. As an avid modder (Havent NOT modded a game ive played for the last 10+ years), thats almost unthinkable.
The base game is just THAT good. -

ModddThere is no plan to support MOD in the 2024 roadmap,I don't think many people can hold out until 2025

SolegoAt least half of the <10k vote features requested could be solved by adding mod support. The more comprehensive the capability, the better. If modders can fiddle with building tools, add enemy types, add materials, etc, that's neat. If they can add NPCs, towers, rewrite the skill tree and loot generation code? Now THAT is where you get some of the coolest stuff. It'll be the difference between cosmetic mods and total conversion mods.

IsaacMod support is not a good thing to have in a game still going through frequent updates. It takes attention and energy away from core development, and initiates a spiral where mods break something and it's on the devs to scramble and fix it because it's ultimately their reputation on the line. If the mods break the game, it's the original devs who get the most complaints, telling them that they're not working with the community or that they're trying *too hard* to give the community what it wants.
3
Much as I love BG3, you can see what this problem has done to that game. Players expect Larian to keep up with modders while the game is only 7 months old. So every update involves absurdly huge lists of changes that all break something else. And then players blame Larian for it.
It's better for all involved if we just exercise some patience. -

Brian Trappi would rather them spend their time working on the full release of the game instead of creating a modkit for modders to mod the game, there is still about 2/3 of the map we don't have access too which means plenty more content for them to work on before doing a full release. We don't need mods at this stage of the game. at this point id rather experience the full vision of their story for this game, wait till at least a year after full release before messing with any mod stuff
