quick deposit items/loot into nearby chests
While I enjoy the Shift+R function while inside a single chest, it would be nice to press this while being close to multiple chests to immediately stash all the items I have to their matching location in the storage.

Tanner MergedThe minigame of dumping your inventory into 15 different chests gets old I think we can all agree, would be very nice to be able to stand in the middle of a group of chests and deposit items with one click of a button to chests nearby holding the same items.

Jassy MergedOne of the worst things in survival games is dealing with storage. Items are split all over the place. It would be nice to auto stack between different containers somehow.

Montineer MergedAdd some sort of feature where you can "upgrade" a magic chest or something similar to disperse the loot you put in it, into nearby other magic chests, if they already have more of the same loot.
Basically it would be come a dump-location for when you're out farming items, resources etc and want to see what's new, or simply not spend an eternity pressing "Deposit Stacks".
This would match the game setting and how it works.
Another way to solve this is to have an NPC called Packer or something that you could talk to and select "Please store my items". But this would probably require some way for players to choose what items to keep. Adding a backpack that allows or denies quick storage is another alternative. -

Danny MergedYou press a button and all materials are deposited to nearby chest(s) containing the same items (auto sorted). This feature could exclude weapons/gear.
In the long run, we tend to need many chests and sorting them (amongst friends) can become a challenge/headache.
This feature exists in the game Grounded and is such an insane QoL.
Gameplay becomes more fun when it is less about chest management. -

Mark MergedLike Danny said. This system is used in a game called Nessese I played a while back. Just walk into your chest room and press a button to auto store like items in all nearby chests. It is amazing.

CitizenOneOne chest to rule them all.
I like how crafting from chests was worked in game magic rather than programmer magic. To add in quick deposits, add a NPC rescue that deals with organization and sorting base management ect. so you talk to them or they have a chest you dump into and its sorted from there, or just a magic chest that does it.
Also visual stock piles are a big thing it adds to realism and helps those of us who deposit stuff and never see it again.
I.E Rockpiles, stacks of stuff ect. -

Haraldr MergedI like the magic chest. I could imagine another chest upgrade that allows you to put items by sort to stacks into all chests arround, that you can fast store whole inventory into the chests with one click when you arrive in base after an adventure.

Toasterplug MergedAdd to stacks in chests without opening the chest. We can already add to stacks in chest once they are open with shift R. I purpose that if we are looking at a chest close enough to open it we could instead hit shift R to move things from our inventory and into appropriate stacks in the chest we are looking at.

Anvil MergedSort all to nearby chests would be a decent quality of life change, but I think it would be much more interesting to include it as an upgrade to a Flame Altar, maybe at level 3, when medium and small magic chests are readily available. NPCs can take materials from any magic chest, making the inverse possible would be very cool, adding it into the gameplay curve would put more value on magic chests and learning inventory management beforehand.

BurroTile MergedInventory management shouldn't be an annoying minigame.
I like how the mod "SmarterContainers" for valheim works.
Ctrl click item while chest open to have it auto routed to another chest with item.
https://valheim.thunderstore.io/package/Roses/SmarterContainers
This is QOL that many developers overlook in crafting games and many have mods that do this. Please don't overlook this! -

NoratharDefinitely something that stops me from playing. I'm at level 6 and can't force myself to continue because of that. While the rest of the game is quite enjoyable, inventory <-> storage management is something that I like to spend as little time on as possible in survival games.

Ovan MergedGrounded and Necesse have this feature and that is one of the best features they have. This reduces our time to deposit items and we can focus more on doing adventure or making buildings.

Sklavorn MergedCouldn't upvote this enough. Like others have said, it can really bog the game down when chest management takes up so much time.
Especially later in the game, when you start to get a ton of different components and items, going to all the chests and hitting Shift+R (especially without labeling/signs) is just a hassle. Yes, it's a QoL addition but I think it would make SUCH a difference. -

KuuramaIt would be game changer. At least fixing the fact that we have to open each chest one by one just to keep things clear and organised..

CNAFE MergedMagic Storage sorting is a must!. nothing like stack shelf's at the super market for fun but i game.
Mid game Item don't mid some chest sorting to start but mid game when you have 10 plus medium chest.
15 to 20 mins exploring and looting say 5 second to open close stack and sort each chest 50 seconds.
not to bad over 40 hours into the game 40*60=24000 mins ,24000/20=120 chest sorting ,120*50=6000 seconds of chest management.
i have spent 6000/60=100 mins of chest management minimum -

Alfonso MuskedunderI cannot upvote this more. Having to sort your inventory deposit individually and by hand gets fairly tedious. This is especially true, when you consider how encouraged you are to explore and come back with a packed inventory of random stuff haha.

PlausibleAlpacaIMO opening one magic chest should give you access to all magic chests in that base. Both deposit and withdraw. Not sure what the interface would look like but it'd probably need a search bar.
-

Disenxthis would be amazing, something similar to how grounded does their "hot deposit into nearby storage." cause it's already very very hard to organize chests in this game, imagine down the road when they introduce new materials and such, it gets so tedious and also takes time away from adventuring
-

FracasoTo piggyback off of this suggestion, if you're in a base area with magic chests, why not have a way to deposit to all chests in the base at once?
-
28 Mar, '24
GregEven if you could not do multiple chest at once which is the preferred option just being able to do the shift+r without opening the chest with just a mouse over of the chest would be a huge improvement.

Krm1tTo keep in line with the game as it is currently, then a Butler npc (another comment called it a Packer) is probably the best solution.
You give him the resources you want stored and he tries to find room for them.
Any resources he can't find room for comes back to you and you then have to figure out why i.e. is the chest where you store the resource full or something similar.
That way you outsource the tedious parts of putting things into storage but without removing the players need to interact with the storage system every now and then.
The Butler could then also provide you with an overview of all available resources making it easier to figure out what you might be low on. -

SojeYES! Give us the ability to set what items should go into each chest (gear, ore, plants, potions, etc...). There could be like a main chest where you deposit your stuff into and once closed, that chest distributes it between the others, or whatever.

ETBLove all these ideas. The simplest way to do it is when looking in your backpack and in range of your storage - clicking on an item and pressing the hotkey to send it to storage would send the item to the magic chest.
Alternatively, introduce a new NPC character - the "Warehouse manager" you place them, then one of the items you build for them is a storage warehouse - it's as big as a house and auto-organises things into categories, woods, cooked food, uncooked food, ores, etc. when interacting with the NPC you can grab things out of the warehouse.
It would be nice if there was a simple UI that allows you to name categories and specify what goes into each category.
Lots of lore/themed ways to do this - perhaps the "Warehouse manager" is a literal mole and you'll need to dig out a underground basement for them? Maybe they're a former banker/vault master for a former king or something and the theme matches their character. -

MacdallanI have been playing a game called Dawn of Defiance and it has a system where holding "E" while facing a chest will add similar items to that chest. Something like that would be great for this game.
A magic "sorting chest" or a simple stockpile where you dump you loot that gets auto sorted into magic containers (by magic or by the NPCs), or adding a "warehouse manager" NPC... all things that could work. That or MUCH larger containers.
Bare minimum? Let us label chests, or put signs up near them. -

CynoI really hope this is considered and eventually implemented. I love the feeling of coming back from an adventuring trip and unloading all the harvested goods but ES has way too many resources and items that make this a complete chore since it has to be done manually per chest. Even a short trip will fill up the inventory with all kinds of stuff that is eventually needed, and having to go through every chest to deposit them every time is seriously dampening my enthusiasm about going on the second trip.
Between the slight delay when opening the chest, chests themselves having relatively low capacity, items stacking to absurdly low numbers and the aim for opening chests being a bit tricky when multiple chests are nearby, I more often just turn off the game instead of just adventuring more after having to sort the inventory. -

YeongnoAbiotic Factor has a learnable crafted matter-teleporting-floor-pad, in theme with science, that will stack your inventory items to nearby storage containers . That's what I wish for here, a magic learnable crafted item "portal" to serve as the next big tier in chest tech. I like the ideas above of the "portal" being an npc too
