Allow us to remove fog / shroud
if possible, an item that would temporarily remove the shroud from an area a mid game Item. I would love to be able to rebuild Longkeep, but the shroud within the tower area and the smaller ruin off to the side are causing that to become a logistical nightmare. and seeing as you can only place things within the area of the flame pyre, it wouldn't be able to negate the larger sections of the shroud, nor would it be too overpowered in my opinion. Maybe a special kind of light that removes shroud in a small area around it, or a ritual that absorbs the shroud as a sort of "collectable resource" so that it could be used for higher tiered Items in the midgame.

Expansion of Buildable Areas in the Miasma:
Upon placing the Flame, players could automatically clear and make areas within the Miasma buildable. This enhancement would introduce new strategic and creative opportunities:
Flame-Activated Clearance: Placing the Flame in a designated area would trigger automatic Miasma removal, allowing players to build within that space.
Strategic Expansion: Players could strategically choose where to place the Flame, influencing the areas they wish to unlock for construction.
Enhanced Gameplay Dynamics: This feature would add depth to gameplay by combining strategic decision-making with the creative freedom of building in previously restricted zones.
Narrative Integration: The Flame's activation could be accompanied by in-game dialogue, reinforcing the connection between the player's actions and the removal of the Miasma. -

Heilong MergedA part of the longkeep is blocked due to the boundary set by the shrouded mine shaft by longkeep which is quite sad as I wanted my house there

Erik MergedBasically make it so the shroud is removed while its in the build area, as digging down and finding shroud below you and being like whelp all the work I did on ground is ruined because of the shroud below me that I didn't know about.
And if you change to a new location and remove that old base or w/e the shroud returns. -

GeraldIve been asking for this since the demo for the express purpose of restoring longkeep, cheers
-

JensYou can remove the shroud in some areas by destroying a red root. I think it would make sense to have this system consistently for all shroud areas. So that you could cure the whole world from the shroud.

BoromirFellow long keep enjoyer here,
I built my base there but am now relocating because the shroud is triggering its creepy ambient soundtrack. Which is quiet annoying to have in your base.
Would love to get rid of the shroud in long keep somehow! -

AvatarPretty sure this idea would break large parts of the game. Remember that every time you "temporary clear" an area, your timer ticks back to maximum and you can fast travel (danger be damned). If they allow this, then they may as well allow grappling onto any surface (puzzles be damned).
The fact that you can't do this indicates that the shroud is a very serious problem that the world is experiencing and even destroying shroud roots isn't a perfect solution. -

whimsey MergedThere's a pretty big chunk at the back of the keep where, I think, it overlaps the underground tutorial area that you can't build, and changes aren't persistent even inside the flame altar area. Bigger, even, than it was in the demo. Would it be possible to adjust that size, even if it's just on the surface, so that it's possible to restore all of Longkeep?

DragonsDuskIt would be nice as we get more permeance in the game that we can reduce the shroud in areas when enough trees are felled. After the first fight where I'd done that, I'd thought since the direct spot was clear, that was a mechanic only to log back in later and all the trees are back.

whimseyI would love to even just be able to, like, dig out the shroud inside the flame area. Like, if I remove every mushroom spore causing block inside my protected area, I can clear the shroud it's covering. Even if that means digging down to the bottom of the build area and replacing the ground block by block.

Travis Mergedability to build in shroud area i found a nice cave pillar and want to connect the overland to the underground but cant seem to be able to alter the terrain in the shroud
maybe make it a server option? -

KhaimHonestly I’d like it even more if removing these roots was permanent. We’d just need an alternate source of the drop material.

SkhaatThought this would be a cool option to turn on in game.
Small servers or single
Player. Once an area is cleared the shroud is gone.
Would make world

Ferunian MergedI think it would be nice if we can clean Miasma-areas in range of the flamealtar. I'm would be fine if it will be expansive but it is important to rebuild some places like Longkeep.

TantraManSO far I am enjoying this game as a SP and my Buddy hops in every once in awhile. I do wish the Devs would make clearing/beating certain bosses/roots/wells, etc clear the shroud from that area. If they want a persistent shroud threat then the story line needs to be altered as "cleansing the valley" makes zero sense. I can say that is about the only thing I am not a fan of atm. the complete lack of persistence. If i log out or do NOT run a server the world is reset EVERY time...really disappointing that nothing I do TRULY matters. The Game is fun, but once I get to a certain point, Ill return to Valheim where I can make real changes to the world and my impact is known.

Redman247Not sure if its a bug or not, but I have destroyed all the roots on my map, and now the shroud is gone. The only way it returns is if I leave the and return to the game, but only in a small area around where the roots are. Which is fine, I like seeing the clear shroudless areas, I just wish I could build in those areas.
How it should be: Clear out all roots on map, you can build in the previous shroud areas, unless its the small area the root generates shroud (the area is the same size that's clear the first time you kill a root) or unless its a game specific POI. -

Lopaka MergedIf a building, city, ect. is repaired and you remove the Altar, Please make it so it DOES NOT CHANGE BACK, or have the admin of a server have the powers to determine. If I change on my own game, it should stay that way. thanks.

SliceyMcHackHackI was thinking about it specifically for Longkeep and my solution was if you go tear down all the roots in the Springlands have it automatically remove the Shroud from Longkeep and that could be part of the build you first base quest.. And you could then have a similar reward for the other areas where it could give you a small town you could rebuild if you want. Make a specific flame alter location it can snap to that way when upgraded it will cover the town you reclaimed..

AXLIBThe new update stright up just added shourd in the our base that we work on a long time, please either remove them from base or at least allow us get rid of them in the base that didn't have it previously

ParzivalThe newest update added a large enshroud pocket inside our base that we have been working on for a while now. kind of annoying that we cant fix it (i.e. remove the shroud and the shroud gas) and continue our base build (its a sprawling desert village thing).

Maria MergedWe see you heard us! Thank you for bigger building zone in Long Keep
But there is still some part that renews when log off
https://prnt.sc/TJaC99hv_XEo
can we have building zone just a bit bigger for 2-3 squares? -

SupraslI agree that the shrood should be automatically removed when withing the altar's limit.
But only in non shrouded areas.
Anywhere you already can build your base, if there is a small shrouded spot like at long keep, or any other built on the map, if you decide to make it your base, the altar should remove the little shrouded areas within it's range. -

MariaI also want to revuild whole Long Keep and shroud making me a bit sad. it would be great if altar clears area and make Shroud gone. Until you destroy altar or something like that

Steve JI really like the idea of being able to permanently remove the shroud from an area. At some point it would be fun to be able to restore the entire map shroud free... But for now, I would like to be able to remove the shroud from an area and if its within a flame alter area - it stays removed.

TetoraRebuilding and restoring the settlements is a huge chunk of enjoyment for me, and I do get that major alteration to mechnics around the shroud might be a huge undertaking. What if it was as temporary as the settlement building itself?
Woodgard. Longkeep. Pikemead's Reach. I wanna rebuild it ALL!
What if... we find another survivor. An ancient. Amongst ancient-themed bits like doors, windows, decor etc... they grant a buildable mini flame shrine.
These flame shrines are a small placeable (brazier sized?) that when put in a buildable area, remove shroud effect in a set radius. Expensive to make. Multiple needed to clear a decent area within the build radius.
Only thing they cant remove is the red death floor.
As is current - remove your flame altar, and everything placed will eventually despawn and reset? -
07 Jul, '24
WJSThe game has some pretty serious ludonarrative dissonance regarding the shroud, the *story* is telling you that your job is to clear it by destroying the shroud roots, but the *gameplay* tells you "lol, you thought we actually meant it? They respawn, sucker!"

Magnus MergedI've been trying to restore Longkeep and rebuild it. but I can't remove the shroud. this whole game is about restoring the land and pushing back the shroud, instead we are forced to change all our plans to just avoid it.

Chris MergedFrom some of the lore I have read. It seems like we are ultimately suppose to somehow disperse the shroud. I would say maybe keep this for closer to release.

Entropos MergedI'd like a device that can be built in bases that "disperses the shroud" for an area around the device.
This could be a kind of torch or a fancy looking contraption. It should probably be expensive (in terms of resources) depending on the range.
Alternative, this could be another "unlockable" at the flame alter (again, should probably be fairly expensive.
Basically - I love that you can essentially "rebuild ruins". But I'd like the pretty up the shroud as well.
To up the difficulty, whether device or flame shrine, it could require fuel of some sort. -

Aile MergedI want to be able to reclaim all of long keep for example. I want to be able to permanently remove the shroud from my base area and create a new city with npc and such which you cant do because of the shroud always being everywhere. Also i want to double the alter limit.

Gwaihir MergedAs of now, if you place an altar and the building space includes a patch or area in which shroud is present, the shroud will remain in place and you are not able to build in that area.
Story and building wise it would be cool if the area, that is protected/claimed by the flamealtar, would bring the option of getting rid of the shroud and being able to build on that area.
The cleaning could be automated or the player could use a tool, like a little Vakuum to clear the shroud manually lol. -

EriccI would definitely like to be able to remove the small patches of shroud that are inside my build area, like that one spot east of longkeep in front of the starting cliff. Or longkeep itself.
Not being able to remove shroud from elixer well areas and such is fine, but just let me get rid of those small spots! -

liku MergedLongkeep, as a new town for beginners, is also the preferred place for many players to build villages. However, there are some places where shroud covers occupy, which greatly affects the environment and looks uncomfortable. So I need this feature
