Only allow disassemble or pickup while build hammer is in hand.

Currently when you have things like rugs and other decorative objects and your running around your screen is just spamming the E for pickup option. I have had people accidentally dismantle wells, pickup and break the benches on accident, etc.

The simple solution is to have pickup/dismantle options ONLY show up while the building hammer is in your hand.

I would suggest making it so you can't "Dismantle" or "Pick Up" items within your base unless you have the hammer equipped. The dismantle UI is annoying when it is around at all times and my friend accidently dismantled our well...... hoping he doesn't dismantle the new one now that we moved.

Allow hammers to increase your interaction ranges for 'pickup' to be further than normal as well, because if you place grappling points high up it ends up triggering you to 'grapple' when you want to hold to remove.

Because of how easy it is to destroy things (since you have put all interact on E and all dismantle on HOLD E for some reason) we suggest that before hold e to dismantle ever pops up on a players screen, that they have a construction hammer in their hand.

Also when you place a Flame Altar within an area with already made buildings or items it always says to dismantle the items or buildings...please make it where that option is only available with the construction hammer out!

I wanted to make the same suggestion, good to see it already exists.
My main gripe with the "pick up" prompt is that it's extremely immersion breaking and annoying.
The more you decorate your base, the more it pops up.

Not only will this help fix accidental pickup, but it helps declutter player bases. It's ugly having pickup prompts surrounding me whenever I walk through my base

Totally up for that, necessary gameplay improvement to avoid mistakenly destroying your buildings :) Also, it's as mentioned above immersion breaking to see when having nothing or your weapon in hand, those blinky flashing furniture

I was about to suggest this. Yes, this would be great, maybe even a way to pick up non-broken non-player-built furniture that we've already unlocked.

AGREED.
None of the items should be dismantlable unless the hammer is active.
Furthermore, once a player places a placeable, they should be able to LOCK it so that it can not be destroyed, reclaimed or moved without a hammer in hand.
Books come to mind, which only take a single punch to destroy a pile of several books... utter nonsense, have you ever tried to destroy a book with your bare fist ???

1000% yes! Dismantling, Pickup, anything that effects your Flame Alter area... All these actions should require you to be holding your construction hammer, :)

Yes, please. For example, it's annoying and sometimes dangerous always to be able to pick up objects. Especially if it's scaffolds or fences keeping you from falling down.

Yes. Also because it's distracting when I lay down a bunch of nice, cozy carpets and then have them flash to a darker shade (which happens alongside the "pick up" prompt) whenever I traverse them/whenever I'm in their object selection range. It ends up looking like my floor has a visual glitch.

Or like to have an accept option when you build in an existing structure so it will change and stop asking every time you open an door if you what to dismantle it.

Would also love option to MOVE things as opposed to tear down and rebuild.

Yes please! I cannot tell you how often I go to pick something up and accidentally pick up something from another floor. Make things "pick-up-able" only if we can SEE them! If they are not in visible range, we shouldn't be able to grab them.

It would also be helpful to have the visual showing you which item is targeted for pick up (currently a very VERY faint darkening that pulses) be much easier to see. Perhaps a glow instead of the faint darkening? Or make the darkening more apparent?

I also like the hammer being needed option...would reduce visual spam when moving around your base and not wanting to move anything. No more E clutter :) And helpful when placing flame altars near existing structures. So many times I accidentally disassembled some feature I badly wanted to keep because I can't make it when trying to pick up something I had placed. Argh!

I am loving this game! So much so, I've pretty much stopped playing anything else! When I dismantled a commode in a downstairs bathroom, I came looking for some way to avoid that.

I would upvote this a thousand times if I could. Accidentally disassembling a well or banister which you can't replace yet in your fixer-upper house is disastrous. The "disassemble" function should not be on the same key as "use" anyway. This is a horrible UI "feature". A related bad UI implementation is the action key acting on things that aren't in your field of view, like grabbing grapple anchors or disassembling something other than what you are looking at. The whole context sensitive action key implementation needs to be reworked and cleaned up. Any time you misinterpret the user's intent you are taking agency away from them, breaking immersion, and often wasting their time and frustrating them to the point of a rage-quit decision moment.

It would also be nice to have the option to pick up pre-existing items (chairs, beds, etc.) so that they can be claimed and reused, instead of just the dismantle option. Also, I do think that "dismantling" should give back some basic resource. Or, change the label to destroy instead.

Adding a comment to hopefully help bring more attention to this-

All the hard work of making a place look nice only to see "E Pick Up" every 2 steps you take breaks immersion and feels unpolished.
100% agree - only Pick Up available if hammer is equipped (not in build mode)
