The bard plays songs
The bard should be able to play music passively to create an atmospheric atmosphere in a tavern, for example.

As the title says.
I am making a tavern in my game and would love If the bard could constantly play upbeat, uplifting or suspense music at the tavern as an optional toggle, so that whenever I am at my base, I hear her music from afar, and when I enter the Tavern, perhaps you could get a temporary buff, or similarly to when you play music on your own, you get a +1 or more to Comfort level.

Burgle TurtsI think if the bard joined in when you played a song, even if it didn't add to the comfort boost, it would add greatly to the ambience and help create that atmosphere we're after.

lilibatLet us stick her on a stage in our pub and be able to ask her to play. I want to be able to ask her to stop too because that could get tedious.

WarpedGeon23I would also like for Valory the Bard to be able to join in when the Flameborn plays a song. I really like the songs that I hear when the Flameborn plays the lute, and I think that the Bard being able to accompany the Flameborn would bolster the current characterization of Valory the Bard.

LuisaMy husband and I were talking about this the other day. If the bard played the songs you have discovered would be so cool, and you can shut this feature off if you don't want to hear her. Also, it would be so cool if she joined in when you start playing!

BlueCanoeThis is such a GREAT idea.
I debated going downstairs today and telling her that bards typically know more than three chords, but figured she'd whack me with a lute. -

superpebblejust please include that notion that she knows more than 5 songs as a basic level and allow us to unlock more music for her to learn as we find more sheet music. no one likes the bard that only knows that one opening riff, the forbidden one, ACDC - smoke on the water. yes... 2 hours of E.G.A E.G.B.A E.G.A G.E before the lute gets smashed and tossed in the camp fire.
come to think of it. that would be a pretty funny joke NPC. a middle aged aspiring bard NPC that has a series of quests for the player to find epic level bardic songs that sound more rock and roll than tavern ambient music. each quest completed unlocks better bard skill levels for the NPC to play at the base or perhaps take with the player like a portable personal music player.

pdarwin25I was hoping that the bard would be useful for making a gathering location at my big house - she even suggests "we should open a tavern". Well this adds new behavior and movements for our survivors - acting like they are in a pub. This also adds beverages, drinking and cheering from the crowd. At some point - perhaps, but too much to ask of you at this juncture.
I am waiting... I already have the farmer behind two big serving windows and the bard is placed out among the tables and chairs placed around for all 7 of the initial survivors. It all sits idle because all the bard does is strum a note or two and then hums a few notes - repeatedly.
Please, will you allow us the option to mute her playing and humming? -

Paul JAgreed, this would be great idle animations for the bard. Let her occasionally play songs, and if the player interacts with her she should have a menu option for the player to request her to play songs too.
Alternatively, make her offer a new crafting recipe for a "stage" work station; this work station could offer a frequency slider bar (none - occasionally - often - always) to request how often the bard should hang out near the work station and play songs.
Additionally, if the player starts playing a song, if the bard is nearby she should join in as well. -

Dustys DemonsLove to decorate with the items the different NPC's use. Would love to place the instruments on the ground or hand to display. It would be great to have a display case for all the different music you can locate thought the maps.

Rob RendellFrom having played single-player and multiplayer, playing the pieces with multiple instruments sounds so much better than just a single instrument. If the Bard joined in if there was music played near her, it would allow single-player players to hear a more complete version of the songs, and it would also make the NPC feel more alive (they in particular should react if music is played in their presence). They could play whichever instrument is missing from the lineup (the drum only after you've completed the relevant quest), and if there are multiple instruments missing (like in a single-player game), they could pick whichever one would round out the piece the best (or perhaps just a random one).
I would be happy if their instrument added to the rested buff, but even without that, having the Bard join in would be great. Even better if other passing NPCs might decide to do the dance emote, or otherwise stop and clap or something. -

Otterburn98I agree. It would be nice if you could ask the bard to play a song from one of the collected ones and be able to join in. Also I like Dustys Demons suggestion of having mounts for the instruments. I positioned the bard on a stage I made in the tavern. I could hang the instruments on the back wall.

SashaIf the bards and her band could play... maybe have a resource requirement like ale supply to encourage them (top up the tabkard). Music from them like wool from the sheep

Deepdiver9325I was glad to see another musician added to the NPC’s to accompany Valory but too bad they don’t play songs at all. I like the ideas that have been mentioned to make taverns seem more realistic. Here’s how I think it could be done as a feature on the next drop. How about when the player talks to Valory instead of a crafting only menu the song playlist would open just like it does for a player so all we have to do is toss a few gold coins in her tip jar and select the song that both she and her assistant play together. The selected song would apply to the player as well but only if equipped with an instrument so joining in is optional.

JohnnyI think it would be neat if she played with you if you started a song near her. Joined the band.

LibertyI stuck her in a separate building because her little hum drove me nuts after a while :D

ZephirossI think it would be great too, even with other villager NPCs, because we need many players to form a complete "band", plus with the ability to equip them with the instruments we find and play the scores, which I find really unfortunate when I see all these NPCs only being "spectators".

MMIt would be so cool if you could give your NPCs instruments and there'd join in with the bard and play music together. Maybe at dusk they gather together and do this. And you can join in! It would give so much atmosphere to the base. You could set a little area where they are supposed to gather for this (if they're in range)

FLAK MergedEnable bards to play instruments while walking/moving. This can tie well with the feature suggestion for a bard class.
