Better Character models with realistic (adjustable) proportions (male/female character differences)
I noticed that the character models are proportionally off and looks like a tall dwarf, with the male and female features mixed into one generic model, which looks bad and really off. Steam discusses this in various posts.
Here is what I noticed as an artist and student of sexual dimorphism (scientific study of difference between male and female in human species).
These are all the things I noticed while both creating my character and playing the game:
- The body proportions are all off and mixed and matched from both genders.
- Male and female body proportions (hips, shoulders, where the hands rest, hand length, hip width, thigh size, arm thickness, chest width) are not supposed to be the same.
- Leg length is too short for the men.
- Head size of woman and man are not supposed to be equal.
- Hand size and foot size of man and woman are not supposed to be equal.
- Head to shoulder width is very off
- Woman don't generally have thick jawlines or strong facial muscles

The funny thing is, the NPCs - the ones you unlock for your base - have completely normal proportions, while only the players look like a mix between a hobbit and a dwarf. Personally, I’d prefer to have a body type more like the NPCs.
Back at release, it was the very first thing that caught everyone’s eye - the character just looked really strange and I’m one of those people who still can’t get used to the character model. No matter how cool the set is I put on, the character always looks weird. -

C MergedOnto modeling, alot of the gear for mages looks pretty mediocre and just doesnt fit my character fantasy in addition to their being a lack of character creation tools available (you can only choose the face from presets for example) so please please please I implore you guys to add more animation freedom, and more character expression

Martino Fontana MergedThe proportion of the human figure make it seems a bit like a dwarf or an halfling. Is a bit strange looking at it. I might suggest to increase the leg's lenght.

Crayons MergedI'm enjoying your game, and the art direction is great. The environment, creature designs, armor, and other elements look splendid. As an artist myself, I also love being immersed in the world with its aesthetics. One thing that I would say doesn't fit well is the body proportions of my character. I understand that there will be a lot of adjustments to be made for different assets of the game to cater to adjustable body sliders, but better proportions for the body model would have the same effect. I understand that the art direction is aiming for a stylized approach instead of realistic proportions, but the current proportion distracts me even while wearing full gear. The animation makes the proportion stand out even more. I would suggest a smaller head and longer legs relative to the torso to make the base model look more adult. At its current state, our characters look like hobbits, as some have mentioned in the forums. I hope this change can be considered in the future.

RarkerothThe game's NPCs are great examples of the variety of body types to base yourself on, the blacksmith would make a great barbarian, my friend already informed me that he would love to play as a dwarf with a body similar to the carpenter's, the female NPCs also have better proportions, I really feel like a big dwarf playing.

LilyCRoseI"m new to the game, but the lack of character options is very offputting to me. And the proportions are very out of whack. I hope this is something that you are considering allowing more customization going forward.

V.ChimeraI really agree with this. I heard many potential players didnt want to give the game a chance because of the character's model. It would be awesome if the devs can give us at least give us some option for customizing our character's proportions in the future.

Handyman4545I'd like to see the character features change as the character develops. As your Barbarian develops, it's build "bulks up".
As a Mage develops, its features reduce. -

AngieThe characters' appearance is repulsive to me. The game makes you play as something between a dwarf and a child. I've been monitoring mod sites for almost a year now, hoping that one of the modders will at least shrink their heads or let me replace the character with an NPC. I see the character every minute of the game, and no matter how cool the game is, an ugly character ruins EVERYTHING for me. I sincerely don't understand what the developers were trying to achieve by making the characters like this. It's a terrible disappointment.

Matt MergedMake character heads smaller, they are awkward and look to large compared to the bodies. I wish the characters looked more like your game art style too, very good.

ErenI can't get into this game because of the non-existent character customization and the absolutely disgusting proportions.

CrazycatlordMy own two cents to this debate about the player character looking "wrong" or "like a half dwarf/child" is that it kind of sucks to hear so many people saying that it looks unrealistic or wrong, when the first thing I said to my friend when I booted up the game for the first time was "holy shit! That's the first time I've ever seen a player character who looks like me!"

MomoSiShould probably by default have the female body have wider hips than the males at minimum rather than identical, as well as the option to have her hips wider than her shoulders with sliders to match more bodytypes a bit. As it stands the character creation process looks very "A B type-ish" rather than male and female, needs more gender dimorphism which is contrasted by what is otherwise a beautiful game in everything but character design, particularly the female characters.

SamanthaPlease fix the characters / give us an option to choose. Fantasy games shouldn't railroad you into one type of identity and instead give you freedom to choose and tailor your character across different races. It gives the character you select meaning. Plus: I don't really identify as a halfling.

leilarI instantly noticed when I picked up this game that characters have serious Monster Hunter bodies (the classical ones, not World and onwards.) Characters' legs are just weirdly short.
I stopped noticing it after a while, but it was definitely a shock as an artist aware of body proportions. -

ZaxI agree with the rest of the posts here. As a game designer myself, I get where they were going with this as a style choice. But also RPG's are meant to be customizable which is one reason why we love playing them. Forcing everyone into the same basic character build just feels a bit stifling. Overall the game is outstanding and I still love playing it. But when I am forced to be shorter than all the NPC's it just feels a bit off. Even the little farmer girl is taller than me lol. Even when it comes to lore it feels a bit off that the Tank and the Archer or mage are the same size. I vote for more freedom on customizing our characters especially when it comes to weight and size. Please and thank you. I know the devs of this game actually listen to this community so this vote is a great idea.

Albert Daniel MergedI dont care if more options are added to character creation, I bought this game but never played it and wont. I cant get into it to invest the hundreds of hours into a character that never looks cool to me. (I play male characters) The model is just truly ugly.
Get a totally new model, i bet this game would double in sales if you did. Going back I would never had bought it if I had looked further, I mean ugly is okay for elden ring but not this game to me. If your determined on ugly then make the game more gritty looking or something so it at least looks cool. -

CherryI completely agree that the character models are off-putting. To me it is probably the biggest negative about this game. If the character models and the character creation overall gets an overhaul and becomes noticeably better than it is now, I'd be totally into this game. The current character models and customization options are deal braking to me. I just cannot feel fully immersed, because every time I see my character in that beautiful world, I just keep feeling that something is not right.

GrishaI am glad I am not the only one noticing this. Characters really look like 'tall dwarves'. Their head and legs are ok but their torso is squished and it does look ridiculous.

DisoI really hate playing with my character looking like that. It just feels so off and weird. I had to refund the game due to this type of character sizes. The short body with big head.
