Option to display final full flame altar size before placing it down / preview base
Its a little tedious when I put down a altar and don't know exactly how big of an area it is going to cover once I upgrade it. Being able to manually move the altar for minor adjustments would be great. Having to tear it down, level it up and tear it down again is quite annoying.
Possibly a feature where before you place the altar you can do preview of the different levels before placing it down.
Even a large camera zoom out to see the full area coverage. Its also a little hard to see the border limits especially for height. Maybe more of a hazy wall that carries out around the build area when you have your hammer out.

ArcticCamel MergedIt would be nice, to be able to see the full range the alter will cover at level 4 (max) / 160x160x160, so you can see the final area you can build on. Currently a few meter short at my starting base to cover the whole cliffside, didn't know when I placed it.

Auren Dawnstar MergedHonestly, a faint glowing line even after it's placed would be nice (maybe only when you're holding the building hammer to avoid confusion). The max range is deceptively big, and you sometimes can't see where the edge would be due to the camera angle or terrain.

Temo MergedWe need to know where to place the altar for a good max level range so if it's not placed yet it should have different lines for different levels so we know exactly how far our base range will be with each upgrade, rn it only shows the small one and most people wouldn't know what the level 4 range will be

It displays the build area as 160mx160mx160m, which is technically accurate if 2 blocks equals 1m, but it's also confusing because the actual build area is 320x320x320 blocks. -

Lava2007I think having the outline of each of the upgrades for the altar size being able to be seen before placing an altar would be a great idea. So you initial size would still have the solid line indicating the border, but for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th upgrade zones they could have the lines as the dashes with a number 2 under the dash line to indicate that this would be the border for the 2nd tier of the altar and obviously a 3 and 4 with the dashes to signify the tier 3 and tier 4 borders as well. Also if they could add in a sky view "up-down / birds eye view" so if say you had a level 4 altar and say you wanted to place another altar near it but it not be intersecting (like maybe a 1x1 block distance between the two fully leveled up altars you would be able to. (Note: If my wording is confusing tell me i can try and re-word it to make more sense).

Grand ADM CorgiI feel this would be a really nice QoL feature to have so you don't have to keep adjusting and wasting resources when placing down an alter and upgrading it all the way to find that the bounds are not what you wanted.

Dave MergedA chief complaint among players is trying to get a good flame alter placement, especially if using the pre-fab building areas. Since the building is a main component of the game, the hassle of educated guessing for alter placement is a serious design flaw.
My suggestion is to either:
1. Show the level 1, 2, 3, 4 borders ranges in different colors when placing a new level 1 alter so players can see exactly where the level 2-4 border range will be.
OR
2. Allow players to craft upgraded alters using all the cores up front, so when you place it, you can see the border range. Thank you! -

PickledDeer MergedI would like to propose some altar placement features that would better enhance the game experience. It would be extremely helpful when placing down a flame altar if you could place it down temporarily, then be able to see the min and max area radius so you could roam around to see what the fully upgraded area would unlock. Only upon a time expiration and/or a confirmation option would the flame actually lock into the placement, otherwise placement could be revised and area scoped out again. The game is not conducive to planning when you cannot see the maximum radius potential, including terrain that you will still not be able to develop (i.e. portions of shroud above or under ground). Being able to fully see your starting and ending potential, along with un-buildable areas within your chosen zone would be so much more helpful, save a lot of time, and alleviate a lot of frustration.

Allie MergedIt would be very useful to be able to see a preview after placing your altar of the area that the fully upgraded altar would cover. I've claimed a town and wanted to know if I've gotten all of the town with the altar placement but couldn't check until I fully upgraded to level 4. By that point I don't want to move the altar since I've invested all those materials to get it upgraded. You could have an option to turn on a preview or just show when you hold the hammer a different color outline that indicates the full coverage of the level 4 altar.

PaulJHonestly, both options are good. 1) Allow us to see the expanded range, as someone else pointed above each upgraded area could be colour-coded differently. 2) Allow us to move flame altars that have already been placed. This won't really help people who want to design a specific centerpiece area (hence #1 for them), but for the rest of us who don't really care if the flame altar needs to be moved this will be useful.

heavenPlease yes. As other have mentioned, I don't want to upgrade an altar just to find out it doesn't cover the area I want (or covers too much of an area I don't want). I'd love, at the very least, a preview of where the borders of a maxed out altar would be.
