Enable more threads for shader compilation
I have a 32 thread processor but the shader compiling in the main menu only says using 8 threads and my CPU utilisation is only 25%. Considering how incredibly slow it is, can we please have the limits raised to actually use all of my computer resources?

FaGe MergedYou have multiple loading times, at least two of them for shaders: pre-shading at the start of the game and the rest after the world has loaded. Added to this is the loading time of the world itself.
Can anything be improved here?
My last two games were Dragon Age 4 and Dragons Dogma 2, both of which simply checked or corrected the shader compiling from 80% after the first game was started.
Despite RTX4020 Ti with 12 gb RAM, I have longer loading times with Enshrouded (around 12 minutes from starting to being in my solo world) than with the two games mentioned above, which are a little more graphically impressive.
And my party isn't even properly expanded yet :-) -

big sad MergedI used to load the game up and start playing immediately. Now I load up and wait 20 minutes for shaders. I can't see how this is an improvement. I run very good video cards. I load up games like cyberpunk on Ultra, and I have to load this game then wait 30 minutes to start playing? I'm not trying to be mean, but this is crazy.

andrew johnson MergedCompiling shaders took 14 minutes, 47 seconds today. I am running latest drivers for gpu & chipset and have the latest stable bios. I have a beefy machine: 7950x, 64gb ddr5 at 6000mhz, 4tb nvme m.2 pcie gen 5, 7900 xtx sapphire nitro 24gb. I should NOT be experiencing long wait times for ANYTHING. Additionally, i also have performance issues depending on the update... i play in 4k with med-high settings and just barely hit 55fps average. The only other game i've played since building this machine that had longer than a 2 minute compiling of shaders was Hogwarts Legacy - that took about 5 minutes for shaders to compile... at 4k i get around 115 fps. Enshrouded has optimization issues that need to be solved.

Jen MergedThis shader loading taking 20 min on my 2 month old PC seems .. broken. Can we fix this?

Patrick Anderson MergedWhen I load the game up and wait at the main menu of the game to load shaders it take 3 threads to do the process of my 4 threaded Cpu. I can't really do this without buring out my cpu due to extremely high cpu usage (90 - 100 percent). So I can't play this game until this gets a fix of some sort.

Droid8AppleYeah I forgot this was a thing until loading the update today. Shader Compilation even says "7 Threads" on the screen, which is wrong I have 16 threads, but it's only maxing 2 of them. Shader prep in *ANY* other game uses all threads and therefor is done very quickly. I have a 7800-X3D, not exactly top tier but pretty close to it. Especially for things like this.
If we are at the main menu waiting, it should allow all threads. That is the point in not doing it in game and why "it takes much longer inside the game" because the CPU is being used for other tasks. So there's no reason it shouldn't use all threads at 100% like other games. It takes an eternity right now. -

Tubba MergedChange the number of threads for compiling shaders. Or improve the whole compiling process. waiting for 1.5 hours to play a game is ridiculous and embarrassing for your company. You should know better and be able to make this change. The game is exceptionally good, but if you have to wait to play it, it takes the value to less than zero. You will lose $$ and potential players if this is not fixed.

ZiflinSitting on the main menu compiling shaders is also taking a lot of extra power from my PC. Enough that it's making the battery backup that I have angry (beeps)... I can go into "Settings" and it stops beeping or tab over to another window on a second monitor.. I'm not sure why there isn't a way to set a max framerate for the game itself and certainly in main menu?! It's taking 40-45minutes to compile shaders for the second night in a row after this tiny new patch.. Very very annoying!

LucorOn a Ryzen 7, shader compilation times are absurdly long. This needs to be addressed as a priority, especially with updates coming out so frequently.

LisaSadly I can't afford more than an RTX 3060 right now, but 26 minutes for the sharers to compile is crazy! I could load this game & go make dinner before I can start playing. I just recommended this game to a friend and when they encounter this issue, they may ask for a refund. I've been playing since the game first dropped - I'm invested. New players will not be. This REALLY needs to be fixed soon.

King JoeyYeah, this is pretty much a deal-breaker for me. This is the second time I've had to compile shaders, and it's been over 30 minutes each time. I will not be doing this again, and I will absolutely be going out of my way to tell everyone I can to avoid this game like the plague. It is absolutely horrible, and there is zero reason to think that any game designed by a team that lets this continue will end up being worth playing anyway.

M BiscottiEnshrouded updated today, Shader compilation with 15 threads on a i7 13700KF limited to 4.8GHz to avoid high temp (4800 low ws DDR5) : 7'43.
-

PaulJ@M Biscotti: my 11400 takes about 20 mins roughly (didn't really count, every time this happens I just recheck my office emails lol).
To the devs: Enshrouded is the unfortunate outlier in this issue; no other game I've seen makes you wait to compile shaders. You guys REALLY need to figure out how to hide this from players ASAP because as you can see even in this thread alone that people feel strongly negative about being forced to wait. It would be unfortunate to lose customers to something that isn't even a gameplay issue. -

VainAfter hearing great things about this game, I get it. Just to then load up the game and be told wait an hour to play. This is unprecedented, and makes me want to just refund the game without ever playing it.

Grunt101Please improve the shader compilation! When it happens, like others stated, it typically takes about 30-40 minutes. Once it took about 5 mins...not sure what happened there. I understand the juice (money and effort) may not be worth the squeeze on this fix because if you have enough newbies coming in and paying for the game it may not be worth the effort to fix things for the established players. Please try and fix this enormous waste of time for players. It really is a fun game once there.

rhaseI just downloaded the game for the first time and this shader compilation is taking far longer than downloading the entire game. I am not very confident in this purchase because of this... I am considering a refund over fear that this will repeatedly be required and the game itself is broken. The devs need to make fixing this the absolute top priority. It is an atrocious first impression. It also sucks that the main menu is apparently rendered and not just a video because it is making my computer hot as if under load........ to compile shaders.
It is unacceptably long! Absurdly unheard of in modern gaming. It would have taken less time to download the game on dial up... How is this game allegedly launching for sale in spring 2026 if it still has glaring, unacceptable issues like this? Every minute I'm stuck waiting for it I am thinking I chose the wrong game and should just refund to try a different game instead. -

RyanI know I'm an idiot but why do I have to compile shaders every time and why does the game crash when it finishes? this seems like a massive bug. I haven't played in months because of this.

TheaI have an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 which according to the interwebs is 6-Core but uses simultaneous threading to give 12 threads. However, my game is only using 5 threads so my guess is that part of the problem is how the game is assessing how many threads to use, and possibly it's not just a single issue that needs fixing but a couple that are exacerbating each other.

DaragosThe compiling speed in this game is atrocious.
Friends ready, everyone just got home from work, update game, join voice chat, ready to check whats new, fire up game, but oh wait, nevermind, change of plans, everybody lets go have some dinner/shower and meet up again in 20-30 minutes because compiling...
I have a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, 8c16t, just finished updating to v0.9.0.0, Wake of The Water, let the game do it's thing in the menu.
It said "using 7 threads". I opened and checked task manager in thread view, showing 30-40% CPU usage, and only a single!!!! thread was on 100%, the other few that were in use barely above 50%....if the game is sitting in the menu, why not use it all???
Nothing else was running in the backround other than Discord...and it took the game 17 minutes to finish...
I've never seen compiling so bad before. Other games use 90-100% CPU and finish in less than 5 minutes, and not even an update but a first run!!! And even those can feel long after work sometimes. -

PaulJNot sure if they've fixed it, but they've done SOMETHING; in the latest update (Patch 11), I notice that the shader recomplication now takes seconds. I was sitting right there after the full reinstall, looking at the cache folder. I saw the newly created compiled shader file get created. So yeah, it seems to me that they've fixed this issue. It's not instantaneous, of course, but well under a minute now.
That said, I've noticed the game occasionally freeze - for like 10-15 seconds - when I first close in near a large body of water, like the pond near my base. It only seems to happen early in the session, which is fortunate otherwise swimming wouldn't be feasible with that kind of lag. -

My Sistem bought the game last days and we wanna, play together. As she wrote me " well I have to load alot " I respond her "dont worry , that time is only for first optimization of the game for your hardware.
I have't open the game since a year.
Wow, that waiting time ist hilarious.
For me its now more than 30 Mintutes without doing anything else on my computer.
Was ist bei euch los Keen Games ? :D -

SimmyAfter a long deliberation, I finally purchased Enshrouded. Excited to play in the limited window I have to me during any particular day. I guess I'll just watch the "compiling shaders" progress bar work it's excruciatingly slow way upwards, though, since that'll consume 100% of my window of time.
Will be refunding. -
14 Mar
NahI refunded, first you lie about the system requirements and have horrible artifacting, then you limit my 5700x3d to only 7 threads, I had to recompile twice, I am convinced you did this intentionally so people wouldn't be able to refund the game, I barely made it.

Richard (StitchFigure)I have to literally wait over an hour for shaders to compile...... what is going on here!?? Enshrouded is the ONLY game i have that takes this much time for that! I run an RTX 4070 on MSI Crosshair 16 gaming laptop with 64 GB RAM (I know, it's overkill, but I play around with Unreal engine stuff, and it helps when running multiple assets). Im new to PC gaming, and hear people say bad things about the 4070, but it was super cheap because i bought it the day before the next RTX card released. BUT ANYWAYS, WHY THE HELL DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO COMPILE SHADERS!??? As of right now it's been an hour and 23 minutes and im sitting at 73% compiled..... I just want to play the new stuff from the 8th big update!
