Visual Changes for High-End Weaponry (One of the Most Neglected and Overlooked Game Mechanics)

There's a game mechanic that so many RPGs completely lack nowadays, but it's actually quite old and enjoyable.
So what I mean by that is physical change in weapon appearance, which could be either some details of any weapon model that change with levelling them up to a certain point or some visual effects like particles or colourful magic waves flying through and around the models, which visually represents that the weapon is of a high level.
Actually, both things could be used as they are absolutely complementary, but for ease of adding, I wouldn't go with that mechanic for simple weapons; let's say only legendary ones would utilise it.
The way I think of it is like the more you upgrade a legendary weapon, the more you have those visuals physically present.
Like the similar visual upgrade system is used in the good old Lineage 2, where any weapon enchanted starting from +4 gets lit with a dim aura around it, which progressively becomes more visible as you further enchant your weapon.
