Statless Display Recipes of All Weapons and Armor
Upon obtaining or crafting a weapon, shield, or armor - gain a recipe to be able to craft a statless (or level 1 with lowest stats if that's easier) version of that gear for display purposes. This reduces the need to hoard old gear for display, as you can build it when you're ready to display it.
Alternatively, the recipe could be unlocked upon sacrificing a piece of matching gear for it. E.g. sacrifice 'Brisk Bow' get 'Replica Brisk Bow'. (Replica models should not be duplicated, so if multiple names apply to the model, one should be picked to work for all.)

Paul JI had a similar suggestion for cosmetics -- instead of actual inventory slots you put gear in, and thus causing the exact same problem of needing to hoard old gear specifically for this one purpose, how about instead cosmetics simply be unlockable selections in a menu. So for example when you pick up helmet A, it unlocks it for the cosmetic slot. Now you can throw away that helmet, and the slot will still have the option to display helmet A.
Same for display stands: the interface could simply be a menu of unlocked cosmetics for that particular type of stand. The only issue is if there are visual effects tied to certain item mods, like for example legendary items have a gold glow. However, that could also simply be added to the stand as well, as an additional "quality" dropdown option. So for example you unlocked helmet A, and on a helmet stand you select to display helmet A + quality=epic (for the purple glow, or whatever).
