Plant /Harvest Multiples at Once While Farming / Area Harvest / Harvesting Tool
Farming is pretty necessary for bow builds, so you can get twigs easily. But having to press left click 150 times to plant (which turns out to more clicks, since there seems to be an internal cooldown to planting and looting as well) , and 'e' 150 times to harvest is a bit excessive.
In my opinion, there either should be an option to plant/harvest multiple bushes at once (like in the "MassFarming" mod for valheim for example), or the system should be overhauled entirely.

Kegaran MergedWith having to plant hundreds of bushes for twigs it would be a great addition if we could keep the button pressed while moving to plant them. Or just continue and if there is room next to it, it plants it automatically in the nearest soil

HookGoD MergedI like the feature that u can have infinte amout of Plants in your garden, but im playing an Archer and i need a lot of twigs, placing down like 500 Seedlings for Twigs take like ca. 5 min and harvesting them aswell, would be cool if you can plant multiple Seedlings at the same time or like make a bigger grid so u can choose how many u wanna place and the same thing with harvesting.

Okis MergedLet us plant seed in rows instead of one by one - while farming is great and it works fine it takes ages to plant hundreds of seeds. Thanks- ( look at valheim mod seed totem that is cool as hell :) )

MrMeeSeeks MergedBeing able to place multiple plants at a time (maybe a 5x5 grid?) would make farming feel more rewarding without being as grindy and monotonous.
Also a "harvest all nearby plants" button would be helpful. -

Spectyral MergedThe current system for farming is ineffective and extremely time consuming considering how much ingredients from plants is required for various recipes, needing to plant each seedling individually. Instead, a better way would be to just copy the system already in place for growing the seedlings.

Scott Daniel Lohin MergedPlanting saplings is tedious, especially when mass producing plants for a multiplayer server (ie we need a ton of fiber to upgrade all of our gear!) There should be the ability to plans saplings in a grid, like at least 9 at a time to save time.

Maxfresh MergedImproving the farming feature in this game, essential for quality gameplay, involves addressing its current tedious aspects. As an archer, besides typical farming, I also plant 100-200 twigs for arrow crafting. This requires moving and clicking 200 times, which is monotonous. Comparatively, mining involves holding a pickaxe and clicking once to mine continuously, a more enjoyable process.
To enhance farming, two changes are proposed. First, modify planting to allow continuous action by holding the left mouse button and walking in a line, automatically spacing plants. Second, streamline resource collection by holding the "E" key, enabling resource pickup in a line without repetitive clicking. This should also apply to lumbering, with wood directly entering the inventory like in mining.
These improvements would align farming with mining's ease, making gameplay more enjoyable and reducing physical strain from excessive clicking in long sessions. -

sNOwpunhere Mergedplease just let us grow plants out of the seed box having multiple steps just to get a basic flower is extremely annoying or at least a way to automate the process a little it's faster to just find things in the wild

Grim MergedWhile harvesting clicking (e) is fine but repot should be hold (e) super frustrating while harvesting and you end up grabbing the ones that aren't ready yet XD

Bear MergedI feel like you should be able to hold e to harvest plants. Not for repotting though, just harvestable plants. Its super tiresome spamming the interact button for large harvests. I often do mass plantings of 100-200 of a few kinds of plants at a time. Hitting the interact button 600-800 times in a row is super cumbersome.

Oakenson MergedWould really like to see a tool to harvest that would multiply the yield of crops, I am playing an archer at the moment and having to press E and plant 600+ srubs to make sticks for arrows is taking up a good chunk of my time.
I would like to see a scythe or something that levels up like the Axe and Pick, and had a x2,x3,x4 ect for leveling it.
Honestly out of everything in the game right now the one thing that is driving me crazy is having to manually plant 100's of crops and harvest them, can we have a pre set plot when you have X amount of seeds it just plants 25 at a time or at the very least let us hold down E to Plant/Havest crops so I don't wear out my keyboard making arrows :) -

Action MergedIf not area harvest then a this should be a click and hold to grab everything in target range/area. Other suggestions mention only harvesting fully grown plants and that would be important too to avoid click/button spam

AC MergedIt's quite annoying that you have plant/harvest so many crops and press E each time. Either if you could make it so we can planting/harvest in a grid like we can when placing flooring that would be great. Or allows us to hold down the E button to continuously plant/harvest

VKSuppose it'd be better to be auto-runned by seedbeds instead, it would save a lot of GPU processing all those planted nodes, and save player's finger from getting Tendinitis from those spam clickings.

VixI would like to see a planter/plow/seed spreader or something. a tool requires work to get but pays off by planting more than one seed at a time in a grid.

Jen MergedI would love a way to automate farming later on after progressing for a while at least.
I totally can imagine an NPC that will tend to your farms and harvest what you planted, then replant it to harvest it again - as long as there are enough resources in the storage chests or until you unassign them. Similar to how they made your settlement NPCs work on crops in Fallout 4. (Sorry, I think this comment should be merged with the Passive Farming NPC suggestion, it's a similar idea, even if one is for farming crops and the other one is for farming mobs?) -
31 Jan, '24
Jen MergedI'd prefer an NPC you can assign to harvest the crops you planted and who will also replant the seeds from the seedbed for you as long as they are available. Would be sad to see the big farming fields go.

Jihaku MergedInstead of having to line things up and press E - Hold down the button and drag to plant?
Maybe enter a farming mode like the building mode, and place down a certain amount of plants down that match the square size (like the building blocks)
Instead of having to pick up every single plant individually, allow us to hold E and drag to pick up every plant instead.
Maybe Make it so we can look at the plot of farm land (literally farm soil or +) and hold E to plant or harvest all available seeds/plants. So as to not destroy anything near by. Also we could just use a key combination to the same effect.
Or maybe use a Hoe or rake to accomplish the same tasks. -

BOU MergedPlanting and harvesting 5 or more in a row. Or 3 by 3 or whatever fits on a foundation would be good.
Using the same mechanism, for let’s say a scythe, as the construction hammer does to select size and seed would be great. -

Jesse MergedIt would be great if crops weren't destroyed when harvested. For example the tomatoes would keep the plant but you have to wait a certain amount of game days for them to grow back.

Alex MergedI would like to see more utility spells in the game. One that came to mind was a spell that would instantly grow the planted crops. Could be very handy if you need to get a few plants for a craft. Could also be a scroll.

Brandon MergedA scythe to collect and harvest crops in mass. So instead of spamming a single button the scythe will farm everything it "touches". Would enable faster crop harvesting. Right clicking with the scythe can multi plant, use q to select seedling. The crops planted would be a 3x3 grouping.

AvatarAnyone playing an archer is having a miserable time of this. Clicking 100 times to plant shrubs one by one (that's click, left/right over and over), waiting till they grow. Going back to the shrubs, tapping E 100 times making your fingers sore. Your arrows run out very shortly after, and you have to do the whole process again and again and again and again. One set of 50 arrows is 20 twigs. You can carry up to 500 and that does not last long.
I think what the game really needs at some point is an auto-planter (don't call it that, that's a bad name) which will just keep planting and harvesting an area so long as you keep feeding it seedlings. This has to be made in addition to whatever twig/arrow recipe nerf is clearly coming.
Seriously our fingers are so sore. Please. -

Nehco Harmegiddo MergedHi everyone I suggest changing rates to quantity instead of speed of crop growth. Having the same speed of normail soil, some crops, of lower tier able to grow in any soil should have a multiplier for each soil upgrade apart from natural soil, x2 crop on farm soil, x3 fertilised farm soil. or a +1 or +2, your call
Gathering enough Linen to make full sets of armor for one person is just anoying. Imagine it for 6 people. Not fun, and the crops growing faster just make thngs more annoying.
Tools for mass planting and harvesting would be really awesome, as it would coorelate really well with the "blueprint" system. You could have 1x1,1x2,1x4,1x8, 2x2,2x4,2x8,4x4 8x8
that are already blueprints available with the construction hammer.
with a scythe or a shovel or the same existing rake, could be use for this. there is no need to model and animate a new tool. -

Bryce MergedThis is almost word-for-word what I thought of when trying to plant a tight line of shrubs in order to acquire branches for my character's archery specialty.
Ergonomics: I have pain from repetitive stress, so this is an important patch. Hence why this is the first item on my list of reasons.
Space efficiency and aesthetics: If when holding down the X button rather than repetitively clicking while walking backwards or forwards slowly, a much finer and more aesthetically pleasing line of plants could be formed.
Emotions: Less frustration from 50% of clicks being invalid could produce slightly less stress as a result of the game.
Time efficiency: Being able to plant in this automated way could shrink the time required to as little as a third.
Related to this suggestion is the other existing topic of separating the harvesting ("collect") and "plant" key / button from the "repot" button. Or at least disable the accidental repot when on a trend of planting or collecting. -

Ukya MergedAnd also add something to plant and harvest multiple seedlings at once would be great, maybe with a new tool.
Or new harvesting option to, instead of harvesting the whole plant and have to plant it again to farm the same one, just harvest the fruit and bring back the plant to an earlier stage of growth.
