Allow NPCs to be assigned tasks to automate the processes (farming, cooking, fishing etc)
When I found out you could rescue multiple farmers and it said something along the lines of the NPCs would help in tasks I instantly assumed the 2nd farmer we got was going to be able to plant, water, and pick crops. I was sad to find that was not the case despite the given text.
I think this would be an amazing adition to the game to allow NPCs to collect and store animal products, plant and harvest plants, and cook / prepare food for you while you're out exploring.

Absolutely, this would be amazing. Currently building a village has no benefit other than building something nice looking. Necesse does this perfectly and has many options to control how automation is done.
Feed, collect, upgrade and butcher animals (for example if more than 5), collect and replant farms, etc. You could limit how much farmland the farmer and his assistant can handle per day to not overdo it.
Most importantly: let me assign someone to fish in the pond I made. I don't like fishing games (in general) but I also don't like my cats go hungry. Fishing feels very forced on the player. Alternatively, make cat food without fish. -

Ben MergedHello,
I would love it if there were automation options for production or if the NPCs could take over while you're out and about in the world.
The NPCs could be limited in time so that they only work and produce goods at certain times – or perhaps they could only produce the basic materials and the player would have to craft larger objects or weapons etc. themselves.
Thanks
PS: The game is already very nice and great to play – love it. -

Ulrich MergedFor all the crafting, farming, animal taming and resource gathering that is now required to keep a base running, it would be awesome if we had NPCs that you could set to do some of those tasks. for example an NPC that you can send off to gather a specific resource and it takes some amount of in game time for them to come back, or have an NPC that fills up the food for animals. this could be an immersive way to "turn off" some of the tasks players dont like by assigning NPCs to them, and at the same time make bases more alive.

Nights PathWith the Forging the Path update, this would be easier than before. Assign a villager to a Quick Stack station with the summoning staff. This makes the villager wander to different machines to pull the output back into your storage chests.
Other than farming, I think everything else should be a manual process, as you don't want villagers using up materials you were saving for another craft/upgrade.
Farming and Animal upkeep should 100% be assignable though. -

peter lucasMaybe focus each one on one task, like Farmer - Task : Cultivate Tomato. It will plant and harvest tomato until nor more space on the ground or no seeds

Oli the Ol' PirateI've had a similar discussion to this on the disc. I find it immersion breaking that our "craftspeople" are essentially just walking shops.
They should be crafting...
And ffs i wish they'd learn to stay still!!!
I talk with NPC - okay i need to go grab this rss and this yadayada - turn around and they've vanished, luckily there's now two of the same NPC so refinding the shop is only half as time consuming lol
