Greatsword combo should have more horizontal attacks / AOE attacks
Change to GS combo animation, makes no sense that greathammer has horizontla attacks when its supposed to be a very heavy weapon and greatsword only have vertical and slower attack animations than a greathammer it doesnt even compensate with greater dmg, i think GS should be the one with horizontal attacks and a third heavy upward slash and for charged a big downward slash like tha charged from greathammer and GH should be the one with the GS vertical combo moves but slight dmg increase, makes no sense that GS is sooo slow

GS with vertical chops makes no sense, that would make more sense for the axe imo. -

SakuJoeI actually think it a good idea to have different animations for the greatsword rather than having the same anim as the greataxe and 2H hammer. Most of players don't realise how good is the vertical slash of the greatsword. For those who play the game in hardcore or even harder like i do, the stagger on the vertical slashes comes in handy. If it was a horizontal slash with stagger it would be too OP and not even fun at all.
That being said i would change the last combo hit with the piercing motion. It is very bad and should be changed for an AoE / cleave motion. For now it's too slow, doesn't stagger and make the charater extremely vulnerable.
Btw GS feels super slow because the perk "heavy specialisation" doesn't work with it at the moment. -

DathI agree. Historically, Greatswords were fairly nimble (the Zweihander, one of the largest of the Long / Great swords, was only about 6 pounds on average, which means it really wasn't all that heavy to use) area denial and anti-cavalry weapons. While the latter wouldn't apply in game, it's a shame to see a weapon like the greatsword be practically denied its purpose and use. It should have large sweeping attacks, but I do like the stab attack, and think it should become the delayed attack, replacing the greatsword's current upswing attack. As you mentioned, the 2handed hammer should be the one that focuses on a single target, since their purpose in history was usually to target a single person and crush their armor or break bones. I think swapping their movesets would make the Greatsword much more appealing to use. Presently, I don't use it much because the moveset feels disappointing, but hopefully this can be addressed. These are weapons I WANT to use, but don't enjoy ATM.

SakuJoeAlso one more thing about GS that is frustrating... the delay attack (upward slash motion) doesn't hit small creatures like rat or scorpions, even wolves when then slightly lower than you (e.g.: in a slope or stairs). GS could use a slightly bigger hitbox for the lowest part of this attack.

I can get behind this change. While it's not my ideal, since I do like greatswords being sweeping attack weapons, fixing its speed benefitting from the two handed speed talent and replacing that erroneously slow stab with a cleave/aoe attack would make them much more usable in my opinion. As they currently are, the only reason I keep any greatswords is to eventually use them for weapon vanities, whenever that is added to the game from the roadmap. -

spacefiddleI tried GS briefly then put it down. You spend waaaay too much time in the game surround by hordes of enemies. A super-slow, single target weapon is a no-go.
And that horizontal forward "stab" at the end actually made me laugh. What, are you posing for the cameras with that wind-up, waiting half an hour before you actually do the stab? Meanwhile everything in the room gets to hit me three times while I'm waiting for it to go off.
Even Whirlwind Crescendo, a good idea, can't save GS. It takes three days to get to it while you go through your s l o w attack chain, then it eats a metric crapton of stamina.
Hard pass.
Some of them look really cool on my walls, tho. -

RayneI agree that the two hand weapons movesets might need to be switched up. I really want the greatsword to be the nimble two hander with the different attacks being sweeps that flow into each other, maybe the chain could end in an overhead strike on the third part of the combo. The hammer would make much more sense to slow down since it's a less physically balanced weapon and give it heavy staggering overhead strikes as a primary move, maybe even capable of knocking certain staggered enemies back or prone.

DenTried out the GS in my new save file with my friends and immediately had to check if someone'd submitted feedback on it. It feels SO bad to use.
I'm fine with GS having a different moveset from hammer/axe, the issue is that H&A does the same thing GS does AND add-cleave AND it does it all faster. If I double-jump to reach a banshee, H&A can swing at the apex of my jump. GS doesn't swing until I'm nearly back on the ground. And that's before we touch the downright lethargic stab attack. It feels like the weapon weighs as much as my character
Worse, GS' strikes are SO narrow that it's not uncommon for it to auto-target an enemy and FORCE a whiff. So even if its role is 'narrow single-target killer,' it works against itself there.
I'm curious what the vision was here. Were they thinking that swords must be heavier than axes because the metal part is so long, or that swords are more precise weapons that require slow, meditative swings? etc.? -

Janae MergedI picked enshrouded back up because I heard there was greatswords which i love in all games, huge slow sweeping swings hitting a bunch of enemies, maybe a final overhead(vert smash with aoe groundle).... alas.. Greatswords w/ vertical chops and stab forward.? Huh
Greatswords are sweeping/cleaving weapons, which are typically great in AOE, but the vert/stab attacks are hitting one (maybe), two targets. Maybe a chop for a merc attack or something but the 3 hit combo is not realistic or fun for the greatsword currently.
I will say, I do enjoy using it against single opponents(I like the idea of some weapons being really good against 1 target vs AOE , such as a spear maybe?). Also the last stab feels like it can miss quite easily and you get locked into the combo easier than other weapons and not able to cancel it (from my experience) I agree, vertical chops from a greatsword is just weird, it would be more fitting for the great axe IMO. -

John Mergedthe greatsword is clunky and feels like a downgraded one-handed sword. give it a wide sweeping area-of-affect SWING attack instead of these silly vertical chops and stabs.

BillyPlease tell us this is implemented, you should listen to the people when suggesting on switching hammer and GS animations. Makes Wayy more sense. Idk whom looked at GS animation and said "yuup looks good to me" I feel certain devs who make swords, armor, animations, guns, ect actually have zero real world experience in what that weapon looks like or how's it actually used.
For the GS, a possibility would be, The first two attacks are horizontal and the third would turn the second attack into a fluid spin vertical chop. Idk just thinking out loud.
